Best foods, travel nursing, Braves, and no workouts.

Since I missed my exercise recap last week, let me get that out of the way:

SMTWTFS: Nothing

Image

Whew! Glad we got that out of the way. I did go on a few walks with Jon and enjoyed all of them (as shown above with his fancy new iPhone 5s- taking clearer selfies than the iPhone 5c POS). I didn’t step foot in the gym once or in my running shoes and I just don’t care one bit. But I am pretty excited to get back to it tomorrow. I have a dentist appointment at 10 but am really hoping to make it to CrossFit at 12, either at my old gym or at the one I go to now. I do miss being a regular at CrossFit, but there just isn’t a way for that to happen right now!

I created this masterpiece in the kitchen:

Image

That little bowl may not look like a beauty, but I sauteed some organic hashbrowns, threw in some chopped up Applegate Farms chicken & maple sausage, an egg, and some cheddar cheese, and that was like, the best breakfast ever. The only thing that would have made it better was topping it with syrup, but let’s be real, I eat enough syrup already.

Image

My favorite foodstuffs numero dos is my kale salad with kale (duh), strawberries, garlic powder, lemon infused olive oil (Galantino is my favorite, but let’s be real again guys, not everybody can be as awesome as me and have legit Italian olive oil- J/K, I’m almost out of it too), and the very best partgolden raisins. I’ve had golden raisins in salads before and loved them but I’ve never seen them in the store. Lucky for me, Trader Joe’s had them! I have had more salads since finding these babies than I have ever had in my life. Oh, and yes, I do eat my salads out of tupperware. Ain’t nobody got bowls big enough for that. (By the way, yes I talked about this in my last post- but I’m doing it again with a picture! That’s how you know I mean business.)

Image

And then there’s this fella. I haven’t spoken much about my love for Golden Star Coconut Milk, but it’s a real thing. It was 80% coconut cream and only 20% water, and those were the only two ingredients, nothing else. And it sold for like, $1.75 a can at Wal-Mart. But then the dreaded day came that Wal-Mart stopped carrying it and I have never seen it anywhere else. I’ve tried so many other coconut milks in hopes of finding a match to Golden Star and it’s always a crying shame. It never compares. But then! I found this can of goodness! I actually had overlooked it a time or twenty because it has like, two other ingredients in it and I’m a coconut milk snob, but I went for it in a moment of coconutmilk-mixed-with-strawberry desperation and I’m so glad I did. I ate this on strawberries today and it was like the coconut heavens rained down on me. I would like to say that I’m exaggerating, but I’m not. And the whole can is thick and creamy! Not even just 80% of it! I forgive the xantham gum in it! In fact, I love you, xantham gum, for making such a delicious treat!

This was totally not meant to be about food.

As part of my #100happydays on instagram, I shared this today. I have finished my application for my Massachusetts nursing license! $275 later, of course. I also applied for graduation! The registrar confirmed receiving my form, and now all I have to do is become $130 poorer tomorrow and I will be holding that stupid $15,000 BSN degree in my hand in May! And possibly applying for the GRE, but I’m still undecided. Ask me after my final on May 2nd. Until then, I’ll just dream about Boston and all the other awesome sights and cities I’m going to see over my travel nursing career!

Image

To end on a totally random note (in case this whole thing wasn’t random enough), we’ve managed to make it to two Braves games in the last week (hence my lack of working out). Tuesday was the home opener and it was a snooze. Friday night was exciting and went into an extra inning and then the Braves ended up winning! I wish baseball was always exciting, but sometimes all the players do is strike out nonstop. Even Uggla’s plump rear can’t make up for that many strike outs in a row.

Alrighty, I’m actually supposed to be writing my essays for my biology test tomorrow, so I should probably go ahead and finish that.

When life is just too much!

Holy moly- I am drained. After putting off my biology class for the last few weeks (and missing about five assignments), I have a test in a week and now feel the need to cram. Plus I have a ton going on between now and Tuesday- mostly including work. I also have all my nursing licensing stuff figured out and need to take care of that, but for some reason, filling out forms and sending in $275 seems impossible. I have to apply for graduation (cause I’m done with school in 3 weeks), and sending in $130 also seems like way too much to do! I owe Jon for my car insurance and my health insurance is coming up, plus all the final wedding expenses will all have to be paid next month. Finals are coming up. I’m working more. I need to finish up my application with the travel nursing company and get all my letters of recommendation for traveling. I have to apply for the GRE and somehow find time to study. I need to decide if I can really muster up the strength to start grad school in the fall or if I should wait another year. And in just over two months, all of this has to be done, and I will be heading out to the door to my first travel assignment (I hope).

It just feels a bit like I’m drowning. And after the Braves home opener last night (woohoo, BRAVES!), Jon and I got into a huge argument and I’m just feeling totally blah. Also, I am either sick again or spending so much time out in the pollen has really caused me to have some throat and nose problems. I typically don’t get allergies, but I’m feeling like it this year.

I need to go read more biology. I have to get my essays together and quite frankly, don’t even know where to begin with any of them. Not even a clue. But I have a feeling that all three of them will require information from various chapters to be pieced together, and since I haven’t done anything, now I have a ton to do since I can’t find the information all in one spot.

I’m sure this all seems worse because I have 0 energy to exercise so my energy levels are just staying low and my endorphins are probably wallowing in pools of cortisol. Monday and Tuesday I didn’t have any time to go to the gym or run and tomorrow and Friday I won’t either. So today I will probably skip the gym to get things done. I need to talk to the gym owner about how he is processing my payments since I have barely made it to CrossFit. You know- if I even make it to the gym ever again.

I’m just going to add everything in this list to the reason why adulthood sucks. And while I know I am very fortunate to have all the things I have in life (family, friends, Jon, a good job, my education, a house, two cats, my health, etc), sometimes the to-do list becomes a little too hectic and you lose all motivation to cross even the smallest thing off your list…

Tuesday

Yesterday I had a surprisingly good visit at the gym! I had to get a money order for my wedding photographer (guess who lost their checkbook?) and somehow totally missed the bank on the way to the gym. I ended up knocking out 5 miles in 48:37, which is pretty good considering how little I’ve been running lately! I did all speed work, as usual on the treadmill. Anywhere from 5.5-8mph. Typically I don’t go any lower than 6, but I was spending a lot of time between 7-8mph, so I needed more of a break. Then I did 5×5 back squats at 105# and 5×5 deadlifts at 115#. I knocked out a few pull ups, push ups, and abs and then it was 4pm, so I stretched and headed over the bank, which was CLOSED at 4pm! When did Bank of America start closing so early? Guess I’ll be paying my photographer a little later on. But I was a little bummed that I hurried out of the gym to make it to a closed bank.

After my workout, I ate 6 pieces of bacon (I really wanted chicken sausage but didn’t have any). Jon bought Oscar Meyer nitrate/nitrite free bacon, but Oscar Meyer is just SO salty! I prefer my 365 brand from Whole Foods all the way. And really, I wanted some chicken sausage but it smelled a little off, so I decided to forego that option and just have some bacon. I had a pretty big serving of my squash casserole and a smoothie with kefir, PB2, berries, a banana, and greens. I was surprised I ate so much. Then I followed it with 6 Thin Mints. Oops. I need to get these Girl Scout Cookies out of the house.

photo

My squash looks like throw up.

I definitely was feeling much more “on” after a workout and being able to eat my own food and I had slept in my own bed too. I get thrown off way too easy by being out of town. I don’t eat out that often (Jon and I were just commenting on how we’re eating out so much lately- which is Mexican once a week compared to maybe 1-2 times a month before) and eating out for all my meals just don’t work with me. And for just 2-3 days, I don’t want to go buy all new food to eat for where I’m staying. I also am feeling much more motivated to work out after getting just one good day in. I’m too easily derailed from the gym lately and really need to work on that.

I got home, cleaned, and studied for my test. Jon was gone most of the evening and went to bed when he got home, so it was a quiet night before a day of work and an evening of tests!

Tonight, after working all day, studying for a test, and taking a test, I was excited to get to the gym to walk out all my soreness and do some abs and a little upper body! I got to the gym (still in my scrubs from work) and realized I forgot my sports bra! Bummer! I was actually really in the mood to be at the gym too! I was about to work on in scrubs though, and I also wasn’t about to work on in a tight white t-shirt with a black bra with red lace on it. No thanks.

Off to upload some engagement photos and eat a 10pm dinner!

Workout plans no more :( Sick week!

I’m actually a little bummed to report that my Fitness February didn’t start yesterday. While I was working on biology in the morning, I noticed that I was starting to feel increasingly worse. I ended up napping from 11:10-12:15 and finally dragging myself off the bed to go grocery shopping. After that, I was going to run and head to the gym. Nope. With every hour that passed, I continued to feel worse.

The good news is that I had time to cook yesterday since I was feeling too sick to work out! I also decided to get a picture of what $127 worth of groceries buys me:

Image

Enough wild caught cod for two people and two pounds of chicken included.

I still hate cooking but was actually excited to be making our food again! I hate getting into the habit of eating out because when you always eat out, it’s just so hard to want to eat at home. I used my new kitchen stand (/super old but recently brought home from the storage unit) as my recipe/Pandora stand:

Image

I’m excited to stain this darker!

I made these amazing breakfast muffins:

Image

Bacon, egg, cheese, hash brown! SO GOOD!

I also cooked up some shredded chicken in the crockpot, some sweet potatoes for breakfast, cooked chicken for stir fry, and cut all the stir fry veggies up.

By the time I finished, I had about 45 minutes until I had to go to class. I did a quick workout with 10# weights at home first since I had skipped the gym. Then I managed to get to campus early enough to study two chapters. I got home and was feeling exhausted and lazy so all I did was watch TV and go to bed.

Image

Tom has been so cuddly lately! He just laid in my arms while I watched TV.

I didn’t get much sleep cause of congestion and my sore throat, unfortunately.

I just got home from work today. As a quick lesson I’ve learned in my years of nursing, it’s that IV drugs are really never a good idea. Nothing like dragging an unresponsive, totally blue young kid out of a car, presumably due to overdose. But there’s nothing quite like the excitement of somebody running in the front door and saying they need help and having it actually be a legitimate need, either.

My original plan was to go to CrossFit tonight but I’m really not feeling it at all. As much as I want to get back into the gym, I spent most of my day nauseous and now I’m blowing my nose every ten minutes and coughing and sneezing a ton. So instead, I think I’m about to shower and nap and then start on my biology.

Hopefully by this weekend I’ll be able to get back to working out and running. Maybe I won’t set any fitness goals anymore because clearly once I do, my body feels the need to intervene.

WIAW and my first tricep workout since the rhabdo

I decided to go ahead and do a WIAW (from Tuesday, on Thursday). I already recapped my Tuesday without food so here’s just some quick pictures.

photo 1-2

Two eggs with spicy brown mustard (DO IT!), mashed sweet potatoes with goat cheese, and mango slices for breakfast around 10am.

photo 3-2

After a quick workout and running some errands: Slice of colby jack cheese and a few slices of Boar’s Head Tuscan Turkey, and then stir fried veggies made with coconut aminos. I think this was around 4ish.

photo 4-2

Green Mountain Gingerbread K-cup with So Delicious French Vanilla Coconut creamer with my meal.

photo 1-3

I actually ate this in my car at 6:30 on my way to class while I sat in tons and tons of traffic. Noosa honey yogurt. My favorite.

photo 2-3

Dinner after class around 9pm: Apple slices, same veggie stir fry with coconut aminos, except with chicken this time.

Wednesday was spent working. I had hoped to get off work at 3p because the WOD at CrossFit looked really good, but I ended up being “called in” (I was already there anyway) from 3p-7p. So I got home around 8, did a short workout at home and watched my online syllabus review for biology, and then watched Nashville before bed.

Today I ended up getting called off of work from 7a-11a. They called me while I was getting dressed, so while I tried to fall back to sleep, I calculated my missed pay for those 4 hours because they would have put me into overtime pay for this week. While I wallowed in poor self pity (I kid), I managed to drift back off to sleep. I still went to work from 11a-3p, which was so insanely easy. The slowest day I’ve had in months!

I went to a new LA Fitness tonight right after work. It’ll be my new gym for Tuesday and Thursdays before class. It was actually a really big gym! It just kept going and going! They had the Precor EFX machine which my gym doesn’t have. I think I liked it better than the regular elliptical cause I felt like my butt was getting a better workout. I only did it for about 15 minutes and then went to do my standard hand stand push ups. I haven’t done any tricep work since the whole rhabdo thing, so this was my first attempt. This is actually really my first full day where my triceps weren’t bothering me at all. Anyway, I fell flat on my head once I got into a handstand and couldn’t get back up. I read that rhabdo leads to muscle weakness so I’m a believer now. I can easily do anywhere from 15-20 hand stand push ups before needing a break, so I was totally shocked not to even be able to get one. The gym was super busy so I felt intimated by walking around and finding the things I normally like. I also noticed at this gym, a lot more guys were making eye contact with everything but my eyes… I’m not a big fan of being checked out while I work out at all. I find it awkward. So I didn’t end up doing a ton but at least I went! I didn’t even get there till 5pm tonight because of getting out of work late and running an errand, so I hope to get there before so many people are there on the Tuesdays and Thursday to come! Although I have a feeling I’ll end up hating my schedule on Thursdays if I work (because I’ll typically be up from 5am and not getting home till 10:15pm), it is sort of nice that it forces me into the gym for awhile. And as long as I get out of work on time and don’t have errands to run, I think I’ll have plenty of time to study and to get a workout in!

The gym worked out perfectly because it took me about 10 minutes to get to campus after! Much better than the 1hr and 50min drive on Tuesday! My biology lab was over pretty quickly and this professor seems so much better than mine from last semester! I was so excited to get out at 8:30 (it ends at 9:45) that I left my book in the classroom! I realized that I left that stupid $250 book in the classroom when I was almost home and then I had to have security come let me back in! So I made it home around 9:30 tonight and Jon was cleaning, so I ended up cleaning until Parenthood came on.

I’m off work tomorrow, so I’m definitely going to CrossFit, getting started on all this biology work, grocery shopping and cooking (I work Saturday, Sunday, and Monday- all 12s!), and then I’m wedding dress shopping with my friends! Woohoo! I should be looking at some venues next week and hope to find a good one so we can book it! May is coming fast!

I actually have more I want to say that includes more than just a “blah blah blah, I woke up at this time and did this, blah blah blah” but it’s 11:30 and I’m tired! Now that Jon is back in school, my computer time is severely limited! Maybe tomorrow!

photo 2-2

To end this with, here is our new mantle! The lighting is weird cause the porch door was open. That’s my Croatia picture (I carried that thing ALL OVER CROATIA AND ITALY- and it was impossible since I’m 5′ tall!), my little wooden face guy from the Grand Canyon, and the wine bottles are our two bottles of wine from Italy and our engagement champagne. I’m not positive that those things will be staying, but it’s a start!

Back to CrossFit!

I did it! I finally went back to CrossFit! I never ran or made it to the regular gym earlier in the day. I really did want to run, but I felt like I was lacking energy and was irritated that there were so many people everywhere once I made it out. Apparently nobody was working. At all. You should have seen the Whole Foods parking lot! It’s never like that during the week! Once I made it back from the grocery store, I started cooking in my little tiny area of counter space! I have no idea how people live with tiny kitchens! I guess the house Jon originally lived with me in only had about 2-3 feet total of counter space, but I wasn’t a big cooker then. Drove me crazy.

Anyway, I had asked Jon to go to CrossFit with me. I saw that they were doing 5×5 back squats and that was all it said. I love back squats so I figured it’d be a good day to go! Jon decided not to go with me, so I almost backed out. I don’t know where all this nervousness about going to a new gym came from. Although I’ve definitely grown in being fairly confident in my CrossFit abilities, I think I’ve also grown used to surrounding myself with small groups of people. So going into a new gym was really intimidating for me for some reason. I got there really early and sat in the parking lot and almost went home! I felt really anxious for a few minutes and then decided I just needed to go in. I can’t let being uncomfortable with new groups of people keep me from doing something I love.

It was awkward at first. I showed up during a huge 5:30 class  in the middle of their WOD and as Jon said, the gym has their competitors that can do what they want at the gym, so it seemed kind of chaotic. I just stood around until the class actually started. Thankfully, there were only three of us! Another girl that I think is about my age was there and she was really nice! It was less intimidating being with such a small group of people.

Since my squatting form isn’t great because of my lack of mobility, I worked on that with another coach instead of doing the back squats, which was totally fine with me. Then we did 21-15-9 of a calorie row (21 calorie row, etc) and front squats. I only did 55# on my front squats and felt tired! I was really glad it wasn’t anything long and that I didn’t go any heavier. It took me 7:15 to finish. I was glad to get some lower body work in today though and definitely want to go back to work out more.

It is definitely weird to feel intimidated by CrossFit after so long. And truly, it is not by CrossFit at all. It’s just weird having that anxiety over having to work out in front of people. I have always felt that at LA Fitness, but it’s been a long time since I’ve felt that at a CrossFit gym. I’m hoping to push myself out of my comfort zone at least once a week (cause that’s my goal right now with CrossFit) to get a workout in. If my school and work schedule is ever slow enough, I’d be happy to get back into it more, but I also want to keep running. And I really do need to work on my mobility so I may have to try to throw in some yoga classes.

So, while I have no set resolution for the new year, I do need to be dedicated again to working out. I don’t even want it say CrossFit. I know I can do various things and am seeming to be more into the variety than just sticking to one thing. Once I get into the swing of working out again, it’s not a problem. I’ve just been out of being in a gym on  daily basis for 7 months now, so the initial jump back into it is difficult for me. I really hope to get Jon back into the swing of things and get him to be more active than he has been lately.

Anyway, I’m off to bed. It’s 10:30 and I took some Benadryl awhile ago to help me get to sleep after my lazy day and late workout. Working 7a-7p tomorrow 😦

Run day! Finally sunny!

I woke up today to another dreary day. I made Jon breakfast before he headed down to campus to take some finals and then I started studying. Around 12:30, I decided to head out to the gym. I live in a pretty dark house surrounded by trees, so I don’t typically have a great indication of the weather when I’m in my living room. I went to open the door and look what I saw!

photo 1

This is the first day there has been any sun in so long! I was immediately super excited! I planned on going to the gym and then running after, but decided to skip the gym entirely. I have a final tonight and wasn’t sure I’d have time for both and I really wanted to at least enjoy the weather!

photo 2

This is my favorite place to run! The river runs along most of the trail for this section so it’s really nice! It was pretty chilly out and my nose kept running, but I felt really good for the whole run. By really good, I mean I actually kind of felt like I was dying and couldn’t breathe very well, but I was so excited about running in the sun that I completely ignored that feeling the entire time. I also ran in my Minumus shoes again and it felt so much better! My ankle had pain as always, but went away immediately when I quit running, as always. The bottom of my right foot was a little tight, but I’ll lacrosse ball it out. I haven’t gone running in these shoes lately but it was like my feet were at home again.

run1 run2

I was surprised to keep my pace at 8:33 for that whole time but happy. I’m going to run the Hot Chocolate 5k on January 28th and I’m sure it’ll be freezing and first thing in the morning (I’m not a morning workout person), but I would really really really like to get one of my miles into the 7 minute range at least. It can be 7:59. I don’t care. I just want to see a 7 on there!

photo 5

Told you I was happy. I never take pictures of myself after exercising. It’s kind of weird. But do you see the sun shining behind me?! Glorious!

photo3

I even love the parking lot area in this weather. Can anybody else tell how much I’ve been needing a sunny day? I really wish I didn’t have a final tonight or I would go hike Stone Mountain since I have an annual pass now and it’s not very far from my house. I’m really hoping to wake up to some sun tomorrow so I can enjoy the entire day off outside before heading back to work Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

After I left the park, I went to check out a CrossFit gym. It’s the one that Jon used to go to. I must have been feeling motivated today because I hadn’t even decided for sure that I was going to go back yet. But I told the owner that I’d come by for a WOD tomorrow. I’m a little nervous. After taking 6 entire months off, I can guarantee that my form will be shaky and pathetic. Normally I wouldn’t mind this, but it’s at a completely new place so the coaches have no idea what I do in the gym normally! I remember going back after taking a few months off in the past and my clean and jerks were just sad. I had to actually remind myself to have fast elbows and it was only like, 55# too. The only downside to this gym is that they have a really competitive nature. I mentioned to the owner that I wasn’t sure I wanted to get back into very heavy lifting because of my thumb and he seemed to think I could work on its strength. I probably can work on it a bit, but I also am not risking my thumb. People with thumb injuries often have residual effects for the rest of their lives and I need my thumb. So I’m not pushing it. I honestly don’t care if I never compete again. Competitive CrossFitters are too competitive. They like to win. I don’t care about winning. I like to beat my times. So why pay $80 to compete, come in last, and do 3-4 WODs in a day when I really don’t want to do more than 2 in a day, ever? No reason.

When I got home, I ate this beauty.

sammich

I only bought the bread for Jon to have last night, but then I ended up eating it on bread too and let me just say, it’s worth it. This sandwich is amazing. I very loosely followed this recipe that I found on Pinterest for a chicken pesto sandwich. I used walnuts instead of pine nuts because pine nuts were $14 a bag (are you kidding me?!) and I definitely used way more nuts than the recipe called for. I almost never follow recipe measurements (unless it’s Paleo bread or something cause I’m not that good at baking) because I hate having to clean up so many tools in the kitchen. There’s just no reason to ever have to wash measuring cups or spoons. So I eyeball it and add things as I want. I also made three chicken breasts worth. But anyway, if you need a new sandwich idea and like basil, make this. Also, if you don’t own a crockpot and food processor, you’re missing out. Crockpots make the best chicken (throw in some broth and water and you’re done!) and I use my food processor for almost every recipe I make. Best $40 I ever spent. (Also, I left off the lettuce and tomato and ate it on a ciabatta).

Anyway, I better get showered and back to studying! I ended up making an A (a 90.8, but it’s an A) in my biology class and an A in my computer class (which was only worth 1 hour), and tonight is my lab final. I’m actually really nervous about it, but I think I only need a 50 to pass the class. But still, I’m nervous about making a 50 because sometimes the things we have to find using a microscope are impossible and I always get horrendous headaches and really impatient and discouraged when we use the microscope.

Everybody have a great day!

Ramblings from a rained in girl.

It’s still raining out here! I haven’t gone running since early last week and probably still won’t if it continues to rain. My motivation is at -10 right now. I am hoping to talk myself into going to the gym this afternoon since I haven’t even done that in awhile, but with this weather affecting my motivation so much, it’s hard. I really wish I was a person that wasn’t affected so much by the weather. I don’t mind the cold but I need some sun in my life! I’m at least grateful that it hasn’t affected my mood other than feeling lazier than normal, but my poor muscles just continue to shrink and I’m probably going to die when I go running.

I also like my surroundings neat and clean, and with 44 boxes of wood all over and carpet cut up, it makes things feel unorganized!

I spent my Friday running errands and then saw Crista for about an hour in the evening. The weekend was spent working (7a-7p on Saturday and Sunday) and then I stopped by Kassie’s last night for an owl crafting party. I was only there for about 2 hours, but it was nice to hang out for a little while! My social life feels nonexistent these days. And even then, my social interactions consists of owl crafting parties for two hours or a lunch date. Does anybody else constantly feel like they are saying, “When suchandsuch ends, I will have so much free time!” And then suchandsuch does end, but you still are just as busy?

1469801_932707564912_642509047_n

Mine is the 4th from the left with the baby owl.

Jon came home from drill last night so I was excited to see him, but it was his grace period for precalc so he was trying to finish up some assignments from the semester. We didn’t really get to spend much time together, unfortunately. Also, his laptop is the only way I can read other blogs (mine stopped loading them!) so when he’s gone, no blog reading for me!

Things on the list for today: Laundry (x3 loads), clean the kitchen, grocery shop, STUDY, take my computer science final at 7pm (I had to pay $20 to have the stupid thing proctored online), and hopefully make it to the gym. I have hopes of actually making dinner tonight too, but with that final right at 7, we’ll see how that goes!

My last final is tomorrow night at 7 and then I’m a free woman for a month! However, I work Thursday from 7-3, am heading up to my friend’s house to watch her daughter (we were college roommates in 2005, but she works with me now), spending the night at her house (at least she has a home CrossFit gym set up), working 7-7 on Friday, spending the night at my parents cause Jon’s brother will be coming in to do the floors and I need a good night of sleep, and Saturday I work 7-7 and have our work Christmas party after. The Christmas party may get skipped after all of that though. And all that also means Wednesday will be spent cooking lunches for 3 days and packing clothes! Whew. So really, my Christmas break starts on Sunday morning and our floors will be done around then and the house will be back in order! Very excited!

WIAW (From Monday, posted on Friday) and house stuff!

This is my first WIAMonday (posted on Friday, whatever!).

wiaw1

Breakfast was leftover sweet potatoes from Thanksgiving, a kiwi, and Pumpkin Spice coffee with french vanilla coconut creamer. This was around 11:30 since I slept in too late. Oops.

wiaw2

Around noon, I decided I wanted bacon. I normally prefer the 365 brand bacon from Whole Foods (all my bacon is nitrate/nitrite free- the health of my colon is important) but they were out so this was some other brand that was far too salty.

wiaw3

Thought about running. Nope. Not yet. Too dreary. Kept on studying.

wiaw4

Pre run snack around 3:30. Those are paper thin crackers and goat cheese and basil pesto that they mixed for me at Whole Foods. So good.

wiaw5

I ended up running 4 miles in 37 minutes and some seconds. Post run around 5, I had some herb roasted turkey (three slices, sliced thick per stack) with cut up apples, some leftover homemade cranberry sauce, and brie as my little Thanksgiving snacks. Then I ate some gluten free mac & cheese with shredded cheddar on top.

Busy studying so I didn’t want to cook. Around 7, ate some honey Noosa yogurt. It’s expensive, but guys, this is the best yogurt ever. I’ve converted many people at work, even yogurt haters.

One macaroon. These are from Whole Foods too (I’ve never seen them anywhere else). They are so freaking good. Made with all real ingredients and are so cocounuty and delicious.

Around 8:30, Jon talked me into making portabella mushroom pizza things. I bake a big portabella, topped with basil pesto, spaghetti sauce, goat cheese, and parmesan. I ended up only eating 5-6 bites of this because one of the mushrooms had gone bad (and they were new!) in the package so Jon and I shared it.

I think I went to bed around 11. I studied pretty much all day long. These were the babies that greeted me in bed. Fluff and Tom.

And there you have it. I actually do try not to eat so much dairy, but I’ve increased my dairy intake lately. I’m going to have to  decrease it because despite how much fiber I eat, dairy just doesn’t seem to keep things flowing regularly, you know? I wasn’t sensitive to it before, but I cut dairy out other than cheese in my eggs for months and months, so my body doesn’t handle it as well anymore. Shame, because it’s delicious. And I also typically don’t eat pasta or breads at all, but lately I’ll eat small servings of gluten free pasta occasionally (maybe 1-2x per month). I was going to do a WIAW on Wednesday so it would be a work day, but I was so slammed at work that it never happened.

I took my final last night in my biology lecture class.  I guess it went well? I’m not sure. Then I drove in the pouring rain to get my dad’s car (Ford Escape) so Jon and I could pick up our wood for the floors this morning. It was pouring all the way back and I never drive my dad’s car! I borrow my mom’s if mine or Jon’s goes into the shop so it was hard to get used to that gigantic thing. Thankfully we decided to get his car, because 44 boxes of wood was a tight squeeze even in that tank this morning!

We have all our wood for the floors! Jon made his first cut into the carpet last night!

We both got nervous after he did it! I can’t believe we’re installing our own floors next weekend! I’m so thankful that his brother owned a flooring company and is coming to help us and bring all his tools! I don’t have any actual before photos, which I had wanted to get. Unfortunately, the house is loaded with 44 boxes of wood now, so it’s not accurate if I take them. I have a few that I can post later on to compare though! I plan on painting at the end of the month and we should be getting our couches after the floors are in! I just have to find some rugs!

Anyway, I spent the day napping today and swapping out cars! I had planned on returning our wood samples (since we had to pay $35 to bring them home) but thought my computer final was due at 6pm so I turned around to come do it. Turns out, it was supposed to be proctored on campus this week but I had no idea, so now I have to pay $17 to have it proctored online. Dumb.

My leg feels much better to either run or go to the gym, but honestly, this dreary weather for the last week has killed my motivation. I have no reason not to go to the gym other than I just don’t feel like it. I don’t even feel guilty about it. The weather forecast is showing showers for the next 10 days except for on Wednesday (mostly sunny) which I am not happy about at all. The weather affects my mood (I could never live in Seattle!) quite a bit, so I don’t do well with weeks of rain at a time, which by the way, is how our entire summer was this year! It was miserable!

I do feel like my body is shrinking into nothing and I need to start lifting weights again seriously. I’m seriously considering CrossFit again now. My thumb is noticeable when I lift weights, but other than that, I have no pain at all with gripping things to open them. If I keep a soft splint on while working out, I think I’d be fine. I just can’t lift heavy anymore, but I’m okay with that. I just have to find a decent price for it.

Anyway, I need to go make some of my pad thai now cause I’m working all weekend. Jon left for drill today! I was sad to see him go, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy some quiet time after work tomorrow and Sunday night! Tonight my friend is babysitting a 5 month old so I’m going to go stop over for a visit just to get out of the house for a bit and see her! Have a good weekend, everybody!

Updates on the daily happenings!

I did a WIAMonday this week, but you guys will have to wait till after my biology final tomorrow. I should be studying now but I’m anxiously awaiting Nashville and was getting repeatedly distracted by the cats, anyway.

After day 2 of running, my leg was still super sore yesterday while I was working. I think that wearing shoes with a cushioned bottom allows me to underpronate/supinate more (I don’t know what it’s called in the world of running, but in the medical field, it’s supination). I noticed it when I put on my work shoes yesterday morning and started walking around because I obviously supinate in my walking too. I definitely felt it more in those shoes (which have a really cushy bottom since I stand for 12 hours at a time). Once I was barefooted, the pain seemed much less noticeable. So, I may end up giving up the new shoes. I think I lost the receipt too, unfortunately. I either need to go back to minimalist shoes and hope to do okay running in those after giving myself a slower start with getting into higher mileage, or I need to find a shoe that really does work with supination. I really feel like the minimus shoes seemed to work the best for me, but I did go into trying to build up the miles too fast I think (for a girl who NEVER RAN!). If I planned on running a ton or really trying to get into even higher mileage, I’d want a shoe with more cushion. But for now, I think I’m going to give it a go with the New Balance Minimus shoes again. And if I never find a shoe that keeps me pain free when running, then I’m probably just really not meant to run that much.

Since I was in pain yesterday, I decided not to run. I considered the gym since I was let out of work at 12 and not 3, but instead I napped. Yup. Most hardcore person ever. And my nap was glorious. For real. I’m okay with napping winning over the gym right now. Like I said, I have no motivation. And I got a code (a dead patient) at 7:30 in the morning and was with the person until noon, when I went home. And I’m pretty sure that 46 year old lady is not going to make it, and if she does, her quality of life will be that of a vegetable.

Last night I got out of class early and got to make taco night for Jon and me.

Delicious. And Jon helped me clean up. It was like heaven. Except I spent an hour cooking and eating and not studying, but who am I fooling? It’s not like I’m studying much anyway.

I worked a long day today. Well, 12 hours, but it was probably the busiest day in awhile. We intubated a patient in my room which is really not a room meant for intubating, but we had no room. The floors were full so they couldn’t take our admissions. All our doctors were tied up with critical patients. Our techs were sparse cause they were in traumas or going to the cath lab. We ran out of propofol (how we keep patients sedated)  and it was just a pain. But the day ended and all is well!

Time to go watch Nashville! I made it 🙂 Biology final tomorrow and lab final Tuesday! Almost there!
