The last day, one more time!

My last day (I know what you’re thinking- wasn’t this morning’s post already her last day post?!)! It was a beautiful day, as most days have been so far! I enjoyed an hour long walk along the canal and can’t believe that I haven’t been enjoying it all along! It’s only about 15 minutes from where I have been living!

Jess texted me while I was out walking around, so I went to meet up with her for breakfast. I enjoyed some french toast (one day I’ll get back to eating Paleo) with her. I’m sad she isn’t coming to Portland with me, but we’re set on meeting back up in January for our New Mexico adventure! Can’t wait to meet back up and keep traveling with her! She has made this assignment so much better! It’ll be hard to stay sane without my travel buddy!

After our lunch, I managed to talk myself into going to the gym despite really wanting to skip it! I’m glad I went because I actually had a really good workout!

I did sumo deadlifts, which I have found to be more effective for me than regular deadlifts when it comes to really strengthening my hamstrings. I did some more legs and then did an upper body workout! Felt great! There was a girl in there doing legs and the usual guys, and then there were 3 younger guys. They were so young that they were taking pictures of themselves at the gym. Probably to put on Facebook or Instagram with lots of hashtags. Anyway, while I was between sets of ring dips, the girl came up and said it was so funny to watch the younger guys follow me around. Then she went on to tell me what great legs (and what a great body in general!) I have! We chatted for a bit about CrossFit and she kept saying how I must be so young. I told her that I’m 28 and she was shocked! She thought 22. And then she said the guys should get on it and get my digits (sarcastically, I’m sure- they were babies) since I had mentioned it was my last day in town. Then I said I was married and really threw her off (I never wear rings to the gym). She was so sweet and it was nice to hear such positive words about all my hard work! And I felt like my legs had gotten so skinny when I quit working out with my thumb injury and I feel like it has taken so long to even start coming back! I have felt them getting somewhat bigger but Jon can never tell, so they really must be!

This evening I packed my whole room up! I brought SO much underwear! I didn’t even realize how many pairs I brought but I guess I thought I’d never do laundry! How many thongs can I need?! I also have tons of clothes since I was expecting to actually get dressed up more often and was expecting a bigger change in weather… Definitely could have left tons at home! I have no clue how Jon is going to fit his suitcase in my car! I also have my huge painting from Rhode Island to fit too! Ahh! Other than that, all that’s left is a backpack, my camera, and a computer! Not too shabby! I stopped by work to drop Jessie’s Keurig off and left some munchkins (all about the DD here) and a thank you note for my coworkers! Already miss them! They were great!

Time to head to bed! I plan on leaving around 6:15ish tomorrow! I thought about going to the gym at 5, but let’s be real… I need to sleep! And we’re going to be hiking for two days so it’s not that important!

My first gym selfie & travel nurse updates

This morning (Monday morning- it’s midnight after work) I was really NOT motivated at the gym at all. I ran 0.5 mile (yup) and then did legs. I actually managed to get through back squats, deadlifts, and good mornings fairly well but by the time I finished that short leg workout, I was over it. After a few quick pull ups and an ab workout, I was out the door. But not before taking my first gym selfies ever. And last. Look at how awkward I am. How do you even pose for a full body photo of yourself?

photo-7

Helloooo long torso and short legs! And lack of hips. I rarely look at photos of myself and think that I look like I’m only 5′, but I look pretty short here. Every time I’ve weighed myself lately, I’ve been 101.4lbs, so this is right around that weight, I’m sure. I don’t really weigh myself much and only do if a scale happens to be in the bathroom I’m in. If I ever get back to 105lbs, I’ll do a comparison photo. But I doubt that’ll happen cause it takes a lot for me to gain weight.

After the gym, I had an interview for a job in Portland, OR. I was technically offered the position from my paper profile but wouldn’t accept a position without speaking to the manager. I have to be honest, the manager did not sell me on the job. I expected some sort of info about the hospital but she said, “I was told you wanted to speak with me” and then let me take the entire lead and provided very unimpressive answers. It seems like their nurse/patient ratios are good and it’s either 2p-2a or 3p-3a shifts with mostly block scheduling. That sounds pretty good to me, however, the pay leaves a little to be desired still. The one benefit of it, which I initially was really put off about, was that this is an 8 week assignment. I really want 13 weeks, but Portland is going to be rainy and once it snows, I can’t hike the surrounding mountains because of the snow (unless I learn to drive in snow). Since the start date is October 13th (earlier than I wanted), I would be finished before Christmas. Jon can come up and we can take a California road trip (TAHOE IN WINTER!) and I can fly home to work before my next assignment, all over Jon’s Christmas break from school! Score! So, I think I’m going to accept it and then Jess is going to work on getting an ICU/ER position in Portland or Salem for the same time. Also, if the weather sucks, we can move on to our next assignment earlier! I think New Mexico may be next!

My second to last night at work was fantastic! People have been bringing me food to work and tonight it was actually something healthy! Then the Panera crumb cake showed up, but that wasn’t actually for me. I just ate a lot of it. It was a slow night at work and I enjoyed plenty of snack breaks and chats with my coworkers! Definitely going to miss them! They really are a fun bunch to work with! I’m bummed to be leaving here in the fall too! I bet it’s beautiful in the fall up here!

I’m about to get in bed, enjoy the 50 degree weather, and relax for a bit. My energy level is still lacking so I think tomorrow will either be a nice rest day or perhaps a day in Boston. Not sure which, but the weather has been great so I’d be fine with either!

My first year after college!

I’ve been a college student for the last TEN YEARS! I finished my bachelor’s in May and hope to go back to grad school next fall, so I’m trying to soak in every moment of my one measly year off school.

Today I made it to the gym, which means I’ve gone for the last 2 weeks without missing any days unless I worked 12 hour shifts (I work 2 of them a week). The gym is closed already when I get off work at 9 so they get to be rest days. It seems so much easier to make the gym part of your schedule when you’re not in school! When I was working full time (and going into overtime on a regular basis so that I could pay my tuition) and then coming home to do school work, plus having my house to keep up, food to make since I try to eat moo-Paleo at home, and have some sort of social life, the gym was always the first to go. I obviously really value being active and healthy, so it really sucks that I let that slip so easily, but sometimes it just feels like something’s gotta give!

It is so incredibly nice to be able to wake up when I want, meander over to the gym for a nice morning workout, and then come sit down and enjoy the world of blogging and eat my homemade breakfast and a nice cup of coffee. My free time belongs to me. I don’t think I even had free time in the last 10 years. I really think every second of every day was taken up by a laundry list of things that needed to be done. This is the first time I’ve been able to just relax on my days off! It really makes me dread grad school, but I really want to get my master’s so I guess I need to just suck it up.

Hard work pays off. But then again, not working so hard really pays off too sometimes. I think in the last few weeks, my cortisol levels have decreased. I say that jokingly kind of. I have no idea what my cortisol levels are. But since I live in a pretty constant state of stress (hello Type A), I imagine my cortisol levels will contribute to a death 10 years early.

I am so envious of people who finished their bachelor’s in 4-5 years and then have just taken the last 5-6 years to enjoy life! I know ended up taking 1 1/2 years off of school because of the Army (by the way- I count this time as my college years because I wasn’t enjoying my life during basic and AIT and my deployment, while it was relaxing, I was definitely not living my life how I wanted) and went a nonconventional route of finishing my ASN (associate’s in nursing) and working full time while getting my BSN, but still…

I bet they have enjoyed far more cups of coffee without some schoolbook in front of their face!

photo 1-6

My mornings like this are the best… And I kind of dread the days where my cup of coffee is enjoyed over research papers and discussion postings.

photo 2-5

And to end this, I really love this breakfast food. One smashed banana, two eggs, some vanilla, cinnamon, whatever… Scramble it like scrambled eggs and it’s the best. These are the same recipe as Paleo pancakes (although I make my pancakes way better) but for lazy people who don’t have time to sit and make them turn into pancakes. It tricks you into feeling like your getting bread for breakfast too because it just kind of has that consistency to me. Satisfies me. I have the best food ideas.

Thursdays with Liz!

Well well well!!! These last few days have been pretty much filled with snot and exhaustion. Pleasant, I know. I actually never fell asleep on Monday night since I skipped the Benadryl and then spent all night in a snot filled misery. I called out of work Tuesday and felt pretty under the weather all day. I managed to make it in for a quick workout at 7:45 at night since I felt like I had restless limbs. I did a very easy mile run and some minimal lifting and felt 100x better when I left. The power of the gym.

Yesterday I ended up working 9-9 to make up my hours that I missed. I came home and worked on learning parabolas.I called Jon last night and we went over some basic exponent stuff that I never seem to keep straight. We were trying to figure out if normal people really do well on the math portion of the GRE. I mean, history majors take the GRE (and nurses, who clearly don’t need to know any of this math). I’m sure they never had to take very advanced math courses. I just don’t want to take it and completely bomb the math portion and then get a terrible score on the GRE.

Anyway, today I wanted to wake up early but that definitely didn’t happen! Life is exhausting when you’re sick. I slept till 10:30 and then headed out to the gym. I ran 3 miles on the treadmill (luckily, nobody else was in the cardio room while I blew snot bubbles into my shirt, #imsosexy) and then did some lighter squats with pauses at the bottom. I’m trying to continue working on my form (it has improved a ton over the last year) and the pause at the bottom helps stretch me out. I did some abs and then just some random stuff before stretching it out and calling it a day.

I made it home and showered and got ready in 15 minutes before heading out to meet Jessica and Baby Jonny (her boyfriend) for breakfast! It’s nice to enjoy time with other people since I feel a bit socially isolated here still (which is really okay for the most part!).

Anyway, now here I am, enjoying my Marylou’s, just dreading the days when Marylou’s is no longer close by.

photo 1-5

I can’t believe tomorrow marks my ONE WEEK left in Massachusetts! Ah! The time has flown by and I’ve grown accustomed to my coworkers! While I still get frustrated by this job at times, I am so thankful for the wonderful people I’ve met! I am really kind of sad that I will probably never see any of them again! But that’s the nature of travel nursing, I suppose! I’ll be on to new adventures with a new group of people, hopefully that are just as great as the ones here! I told them all that for each of the next 5 shifts I work, I expect going away surprises (mostly in the form of food)! We’ll see who remembers my demands!  In all seriousness though, it has been a great 13 weeks, although I haven’t forgotten how much I hated it when I first got here and am dreading learning a new charting system again in the very near future!

And in even more positive news, tomorrow marks ONE WEEK till I get to see my husband!

Throwback to 2009 when we first got home from Iraq! This was at one of our post-deployment events in Chicago! (Side note: This was an unplanned throwback, I am not a #tbt kind of girl.)

Have a great day, everybody! I’m off to start cooking for the next 4 days of work!

Counting calories. Counting protein. The pointless “diet.”

I just read a blog about a girl who is trying to lose weight and get toned. She’s majoring in all these molecular sciences and says that she knows the science behind how to lose weight. Fantastic! Awesome! BUT, the only thing she tracks on a daily basis on her blog are calories and protein.

In general, I totally disagree with tracking your food intake by using calories, fat, carbs, anything. Unless you are an elite athlete of sorts or use your body to to an extreme, I think it’s pointless and that it’s unhealthy. It puts an emphasis on your intake and when you emphasize something for long enough, it becomes an obsession. I don’t think obsessions are ever good for you, especially with food.

I’m not against tracking for a week or so to see where you stand. Actually, it’s probably good to know your general intake at times. In the past, I’ve tracked everything and gotten a general idea of where I stand. I think the emphasis on intake should be how you feel and on eating real food.

I’ve been building muscle over the last five years, and when I quit working out or eating my normal amount, I lose weight. When I start working out and increase my food intake (because I’m hungry from working out), I build muscle. I am still building muscle now. How do I know? I can see it. I make gains in my weight lifting. Do I have any idea how much protein I eat on a daily basis? Not a clue. I don’t know how many carbs I eat. I don’t know how much fiber I eat. I don’t even know how many calories I eat. I pay attention to what I put on my plate and make sure I’m eating nutrient rich foods. I’m not some crazy athlete. I’ve gone through periods where I lifted heavy and worked out about 10 hours a week, and still made strength gains. I now have weeks where I spend 0 hours at the gym and weeks where I spent 7-8 hours at the gym. On gym days, I make an effort to increase my intake because I know I burned off more energy and need to refuel. On days where I don’t work out, my intake is still healthy (typically), but less.

Now, say, if I was going to the gym and doing the same lifts and never increasing my weight or never seeing any physical gains, would I look at my diet? If I was constantly tired and drained, would I look at my diet? Absolutely. Then I would think something in my diet is lacking because clearly, I’m dragging. Gains aren’t happening even though the physical work is there. And then there will be more than just looking at protein. Am I lacking because I don’t have any carbohydrates so I don’t have the energy to lift heavier? Do I need more protein? Are my chicken sausages just not enough?!?!?!

I just don’t get the point of picking ONE thing to track. You want to track protein? Well, what about cholesterol? What about fats?! (Fats are SO important!!!!) In the blog I just read, I saw hardly any fats at all. The omelets were egg whites (who doesn’t eat the yolk anymore?! It is so good for you!). There were plant of veggies and some tofu, but not much else.

I’m glad that nutrition is becoming more recognized these days. I haven’t decided if it’s because I surround myself with healthy people so of course I see health related articles and statuses all over Facebook or if it really is becoming a big deal all over the US! Staying fit and eating real food is really the only way to turn the healthcare industry around and to lead long, healthy lives. For the average person, this means doing anything active and making sure your plate consists of plenty of different colors that didn’t come from a box. In time, you learn how to pay attention to your body and to how you feel. You know what to eat and what not to eat and don’t have to count to figure it out…

(Again, people with exceptional fitness goals here are exempt from this belief… Fueling a body for 26.2 miles of running or becoming the next Ironman may take a little more nutritional planning.)

CrossFit, Travel Nursing, Wedding Dresses!

What a busy week! I’m on a roll with working lately (Tues, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun, Tues, Wed), so I’m on my Thursday off in the middle there. I go into overtime this pay week which is really nice, especially since I don’t work much surrounding the wedding.

I just got home from CrossFit. We did:

21-15-9-6-3 reps for time of:
Strict handstand push-ups
195-lb. front squats
Burpees

I finished in 15:29 and did 75# for front squats. Rx for women was 135#. Uh, no. I did my first round without stopping and then felt like dying every 2 seconds after that. I still ended up with a pretty good time though. I almost didn’t go since I’m not a fan of burpees, but I convinced myself that it really wasn’t that many and decided to suck it up. It didn’t really feel like that many, but I’m not used to the heat yet so I’m getting super nauseous with working out lately.

Anywho, I’ve been having my final fittings for my wedding dress lately. I had a bit of a breakdown (that sound really dramatic- it was not) on Monday. Laura met me at David’s Bridal for a fitting and I thought the dress just didn’t look right. My boob fat was everywhere but if the top was let out, it would fall down. No hips to hold anything up. I said I’d go back and try it with a different bra on Tuesday night and hope that it looked better. But I was just really regretting my dress decision all together, wishing I had found one with straps like I had wanted. The wedding was planned with such short notice though that I felt rushed to get a dress and I was on a budget! I was really wishing I had spent the $1200 to get the dress I loved, so I was all disappointed on my way home from David’s Bridal. Tuesday we went back and the girl let out the top and tightened the waist to see how it fit. I was initially against this, but I sneezed while I had the dress on and popped the clasp in the back, so I knew I had to let it out! It does look better now, but the boob fat is still there a little. So I’m duct taping it in. I used to always duct tape strapless bras in place cause you can lift your boobs up and hold them there, so I know it works. Quick fix (by the way- I don’t wear strapless tops anymore so I don’t do that anymore). The waist now is insanely tight, but I moved around in it and it didn’t feel like it was about to rip so I’m going with it. I’d rather have to suffer breathing than have to pull up my dress repeatedly. And I’m sure when I sweat all in that expensive dress at the wedding, it’ll stretch out some too. So I feel better about how it looks, so I have it at home to do the final try on (should be fine) since I was in no mood to do it after work last night. Getting close!

I spoke with a recruiter today from RNNetwork, which is one of the travel companies I’m looking at. They have 4 ER spots open in June and some ICU (the girl I’m going with is doing ICU) so I’m hoping that this assignment will work out. They ranked #3 in Fortune 500 companies in one of the recent years and I read good reviews on them, so I’m hoping this works out. Otherwise, I have Cirrus to contact also since they have a lot of Boston contracts. I need to get online tonight and go through a bunch of paperwork for the company. It’s starting to hit me that I’ll be leaving next month! I used to be really independent of Jon, but since he’s been with me every night since we went to Italy in June and is going to be my husband, I kind of like my time with him.

I believe I made either a very high B or an A in my biology class. Had I known the curve was going to be so huge on the final, I would have actually looked over some stuff since I would have easily had an A in the whole class had I not made a 45% on the multiple choice portion of the final. If my calculations are correct though, I did end up with an A. Just waiting on the final calculations to come through since a few grades still aren’t posted.

I’m feeling overwhelmed with my to do list. I have tons of cleaning to do, paint touch ups, grocery shopping, studying for the GRE (I seriously forgot all simple, basic math- you should have seen me studying last night- thankfully Jon is a smart man and just finished calculus and is refreshed on all these silly math things), getting ready for the wedding, paperwork for travel assignments… It’s just insane. I wish I knew how it felt to wake up with hardly anything to get done in a day! But instead of getting those things done, I’m going to head to the pool for a bit (getting at least a little bit of a tan is also on my to do list before the wedding- especially since I managed to get horrible V-neck tan lines the other week), get my hair cut, and then stop by the store to pick up food to make tacos for dinner and then work on paperwork before having to work the next 3 days.

USAA vs State Farm + CrossFit

I have some really fantastic news. This is going to be totally boring for all of you, but I had switched my car insurance and homeowner’s insurance over to USAA so Jon and I could be on the same policy. Come to find out (which I should have known but somehow missed in my 3 hour long conversation with my insurance companies), when I went from State Farm to USAA, my homeowner’s doubled. I decided, clearly, to switch back to State Farm. In switching back, my homeowner’s insurance amount stayed the same, but somehow my car insurance decreased by $75-100 every 6 months! And if Jon comes over to State Farm, our total payment for both cars for six months will be $729. Holy. smokes. guys. That is INSANE. I just canceled my coverage with State Farm in February and was paying around $550 so to have two cars for $729?! Absolutely!!!! (By the way, USAA was $1029 for both cars with the multi-line “discount.”) And for all you other insured people out there, that’s for 100/300/50 with a $250 deductible for both of our cars. So, despite all my anger that Jon has had to endure after wasting 3 hours on the phone with the insurance companies to double my homeowner’s insurance, it was totally worth it. And besides, that was all my fault in the first place anyway.

Alrighty, so now that we have the boring adult stuff out of the way… I woke up feeling super energized today, which was surprising since I got home fairly late from having sushi with Crista last night and then Jon and I stayed up until close to two, which is super late for this grandma.

photo (3)

I woke up and started cleaning right away and handling insurance bi’ness. I made it to the noon CrossFit class for 8 minutes of power cleans and a 1 mile run. The 1 mile run felt great. It surprised me since I usually struggle through the first mile but I guess the beautiful weather helped. I used 63# for power cleans (it was supposed to be 90% of your 1 rep max- which was 95# today and I could have gone heavier, but opted not to- my real 1RM of power cleans is 105#) because I’m still really paranoid about re-injuring my thumb. In 8 minutes, I did 60 reps. The mile was untimed.

After that, I came home and did a quick arm workout and then went to The Fresh Market. I thanked my cashier so many times and she didn’t acknowledge me at all. How irritating. Anyway, now I’m getting to some blogs and about to start working on my study guide for my biology lab final tomorrow. I was supposed to be off all day tomorrow, but I’m covering from 7a-11a for somebody and am totally wishing that I wasn’t. But I was only scheduled for 24 hours this week, so I guess I should be glad to up that number by 4. I wish Jon had time to go sit on a patio and have dinner with me, but I think he may have some homework to do. Can’t keep up with him now that it’s finals time!

Everybody have a good evening!

Cake tasting and Body Pump!

Today was cake tasting! Woohoo! I managed to start my day with Body Pump! I was really excited to get up and go for a run this morning, but I snoozed for an hour instead! Laura and I met at the gym for our first Body Pump ever. I actually really enjoyed it and definitely felt the burn, but by 45 minutes I was so over it. I’m used to CrossFit, where most workouts are done in less than 15 minutes and even the really long WODs are all under 50 minutes. Aside from the length of the class, I didn’t sweat really at all. My muscles definitely felt it, but I really like to work up a sweat! I do plan on going back for sure though. It was something different and since my goal is to be more well rounded in the gym, I think this class is a good choice. I’ll just run when I finish it on a regular basis, but today I didn’t have time and there were also no treadmills available! Who knew so many people got out of bed that early on a Saturday morning to go to the gym.

Then it was time to cake test! Thankfully I didn’t run since I made it just in time to meet my mom! Since Jon was busy today, Laura and my mom got to go. I’m actually glad it worked out that way because I’m really feeling the need to spend time with people other than Jon (I love him tons and love spending time with him- but I really crave time with other people too).

We went to Confection Perfection  for the tasting! We managed to decide on a cake, which is totally nothing fancy. My mom kept trying to get me to add some color but who really needs color on a cake? Not me. Or Jon. I was feeling kind of full from trying to stuff my face after my workout this morning so sadly, the cake tasting wasn’t all I’ve ever dreamed of. And I can’t handle that many sweets! But we made a unanimous decision to go with white chocolate chip, which I’m really happy with! It was so good and reminds me of white chocolate bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cake which are my favorite cakes ever.

Laura, my maid of honor!

I just got home and am going to a wedding for a girl I work with tonight! I have no idea who else from work will be there, but I hope there are at least a couple of us so we can hang out there! I’m about to change and make sure my hair is decent and then we’ll be on our way! Unfortunately, I work tomorrow so it definitely won’t be a late night out!

Also, I went to CVS today and found the following Loreal products on sale, 3/$12:

photo-2

I’m really a hair snob and actually don’t even know when the last time I used Loreal anything was, but I’m giving them a try and so far, I’m happy! My hair is super hard to tame in the humidity, but it’s humid today and seems to be holding up! Also, mousse really makes a big difference in wavy hair, but I typically forgo it in the winter because it’s too drying. I like this one though and I’m hoping that between three different products, I’ll be able to manage the frizz and my hair won’t be a fro on my wedding day. So I’m basically testing out products now. And on day 1, am happy.

Alrighty, time to make sure everything is together for the wedding! Everybody have a good weekend!

Slow run days and nursing licenses

I weighed myself this morning. 98.6. So I’m right around where I am when I’m not working out a lot, which I suppose is good, except I feel way smaller than I remember. My goal is 103lbs, mostly cause unless I really lift heavy a lot, getting to 105lbs is impossible. Those 2lbs are like a mountain to overcome. I’ve been drinking protein every morning, which I’m really not a protein person at all because I think you should just eat what you need in real food, but just to add a little bit extra to my day for right now. I’m using the 365 chocolate whey, which only has 16g of protein per scoop (I’m using 1-1 1/2). My Noosa yogurt has 17g of protein! So it seems a little crazy to buy something extra with less protein than I eat in a cup of yogurt, but I can’t eat that much yogurt or it’d upset my stomach. Sticking to one Noosa a day.

Yesterday morning I woke up around noon (I was working 3p-3a, so I slept in) and had totally missed CrossFit. Instead I decided to go for a quick run since my legs were so sore from Monday’s workout. It took me 21:12 to run exactly 2 miles. That’s really slow and also why I don’t run in the morning. I had no energy AT ALL! It felt like the longest two miles of my life (I kid- all of my PT tests for the Army felt like the longest 2 miles of my life). Then I worked all night and had a surprisingly easy shift.

I slept from 5-11 with a lot of interruptions. I had plans of CrossFit at noon but it was a 1 mile run (I’m sure there is more, but it’s not on the website). I decided to skip it so I can go for a longer run. So I’m eating breakfast and about to do my lab stuff since I have class tonight, possibly meet Jon for lunch if he texts me, and then head out for a run and maybe stop by the gym.

I need to go get a passport photo for my Massachusetts nursing license and also call the board of nursing about a million questions. I’ve realized Georgia is a really difficult state to have to apply for other licenses from with reciprocity because we’re way behind the times. Pain in my ass. And so is the $275 application fee. But Jon and I have decided not to plan a trip to Germany in December for our honeymoon (we’ll go in May instead) so that I’m not stressing about doing two back to back travel nursing assignments. Now I can hopefully enjoy a little more time with Jon over the first 6 months after our wedding!

Okay, off to be productive! It’s 55 and sunny so I’m dying to get outside for a run!

Tuesday

Yesterday I had a surprisingly good visit at the gym! I had to get a money order for my wedding photographer (guess who lost their checkbook?) and somehow totally missed the bank on the way to the gym. I ended up knocking out 5 miles in 48:37, which is pretty good considering how little I’ve been running lately! I did all speed work, as usual on the treadmill. Anywhere from 5.5-8mph. Typically I don’t go any lower than 6, but I was spending a lot of time between 7-8mph, so I needed more of a break. Then I did 5×5 back squats at 105# and 5×5 deadlifts at 115#. I knocked out a few pull ups, push ups, and abs and then it was 4pm, so I stretched and headed over the bank, which was CLOSED at 4pm! When did Bank of America start closing so early? Guess I’ll be paying my photographer a little later on. But I was a little bummed that I hurried out of the gym to make it to a closed bank.

After my workout, I ate 6 pieces of bacon (I really wanted chicken sausage but didn’t have any). Jon bought Oscar Meyer nitrate/nitrite free bacon, but Oscar Meyer is just SO salty! I prefer my 365 brand from Whole Foods all the way. And really, I wanted some chicken sausage but it smelled a little off, so I decided to forego that option and just have some bacon. I had a pretty big serving of my squash casserole and a smoothie with kefir, PB2, berries, a banana, and greens. I was surprised I ate so much. Then I followed it with 6 Thin Mints. Oops. I need to get these Girl Scout Cookies out of the house.

My squash looks like throw up.

I definitely was feeling much more “on” after a workout and being able to eat my own food and I had slept in my own bed too. I get thrown off way too easy by being out of town. I don’t eat out that often (Jon and I were just commenting on how we’re eating out so much lately- which is Mexican once a week compared to maybe 1-2 times a month before) and eating out for all my meals just don’t work with me. And for just 2-3 days, I don’t want to go buy all new food to eat for where I’m staying. I also am feeling much more motivated to work out after getting just one good day in. I’m too easily derailed from the gym lately and really need to work on that.

I got home, cleaned, and studied for my test. Jon was gone most of the evening and went to bed when he got home, so it was a quiet night before a day of work and an evening of tests!

Tonight, after working all day, studying for a test, and taking a test, I was excited to get to the gym to walk out all my soreness and do some abs and a little upper body! I got to the gym (still in my scrubs from work) and realized I forgot my sports bra! Bummer! I was actually really in the mood to be at the gym too! I was about to work on in scrubs though, and I also wasn’t about to work on in a tight white t-shirt with a black bra with red lace on it. No thanks.

Off to upload some engagement photos and eat a 10pm dinner!
