4th of July Weekend Update

Sunday nights are just the worst when you have to work on Monday! But anyway, to finish my weekend recap that I started yesterday! Of course, in true Crista fashion, I was unable to get ahold of her to go to fireworks with her. Since Jon and I were planning on being at her house at 8, it kind of put a damper on our night since we didn’t know until 7:30 that we wouldn’t be heading over there. Since the nearby fireworks were booked up and we’re also not big on crowds of people, we decided to maybe skip fireworks.

Since Jon’s friend was in town, I decided to head up to Laura’s parent’s house since I knew she was up there for a little shindig. I love her mom and dad and haven’t seen them since my wedding, so I was actually really excited to go over there! I was only there for maybe 1 1/2 hours before Laura decided to leave, so I had an early night in!

Unfortunately, somebody in the area decided to set off fireworks from midnight until 1:30- at least one firework every minute. I was so irritated. How rude to shoot them off that late at night! Needless to say, it was a late night for me, although I wish it hadn’t been!

I ended up laying in bed, in and out of sleep, until about 10am today. That’s the latest I’ve stayed in bed in awhile but honestly, I really wish it had been more restful! Once I got up, I was still feeling completely exhausted so I lazed around the house and got back in bed for a little while. I finally managed to head out to the gym at 11:15. I’m really impressed that I didn’t skip it entirely, but I really don’t want to get into the habit of letting exhaustion always win over the gym.

I had a 40 minute workout, but it was pretty good! I’ve been doing the elliptical and I can tell my cardio is improving again. I did some leg stuff and decided to call it a day.

Jon and I ate breakfast/lunch when I got home, showered, and then headed out to Whole Foods. After dropping our groceries off, we went to Coffee Bianco for a coffee date!

coffee bianco

This latte was so good! It was citrusy and nutmegy and just really good! I was impressed! And the coffee shop was quiet and cute too, so I’m thinking it’d be a good place to get some work done once grad school starts in the fall!

We headed over to my mom and dad’s house after our coffee since my sister is still in town until Thursday or Friday. I ended up falling asleep there and am so tired now! I plan on reading since my sister gave me some books, and then I’ll be having an early night! Fingers crossed that I can actually get some sleep tonight!

Tomorrow is an 8 hour workday, so I think I’m going to make it to my first ClassPass class again in over a month! There’s a few new studios on there that I’m excited to try, and the one I picked for tomorrow looks like a CrossFit-esque type of class and is one of the few nearby that offers evening CrossFit classes! All the big CrossFit gyms are either too far away with traffic, or offer morning or noon classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Not sure what that’s all about! It’ll be good to get some variety in my life since I essentially do the same moves at LA Fitness and like to get the more complex movements through my ClassPass workouts.

Alright, off to read a book and wind down before bed! 5:15am comes early!

San Antonio Zoo, Austin, Best Cinnamon Rolls EVER!

I’m back from San Antonio! It was a great week with my sisters and my nephew! I think my nephew gets cuter and cuter every time I see him! The things he says just cracked us up all week long and he just melts my little heart!

Annie, Tank, and I landed later on Monday evening. We hung out for a few before heading to bed. Tuesday was a bit of a lazy day- we went out for a quick breakfast and then Tonie had to go to work for a few hours. Annie and I hung out and got our workout on! Tonie has a really nice treadmill and this set up in her garage:

IMG_8760

We had a nice home cooked meal that night and then hung out at the house for the evening!

Wednesday was a zoo day! After a quick morning workout, we headed out! I definitely enjoyed my day with Tank and it was such a nice day out! I didn’t get many good pictures of Tank because he doesn’t cooperate for photos at all, but we managed to snap a few of the sisters (the only ones we got)!

We spent our evening making the best cinnamon rolls ever. Seriously. MAKE THEM. I’d cut the butter by about 1/2 and we also added about 1/4 stick of cream cheese to the icing the second time we made them and it was a delicious addition that I definitely recommend. I plan on making these for Jon’s work.

Thursday we woke up early for a day trip to Austin! It was freezing cold and gloomy in Austin! Total bummer! We really didn’t spend too long there but we did get to see a few nice views of the city and experience a really yummy lunch at Slake Cafe.

Our Friday was spent having another day around the house! We woke up super early to make it to breakfast at the Magnolia Pancake Haus since we heard it was a must-eat place. My pancakes were definitely good, but I’m more of a French toast girl and I wouldn’t put their French toast on my top 10 list.

The rest of the day was spent lazing around and working out. I spent the night giving Tank his bath and hanging out with him. I tried to capture at last a few good shots for Gamma and Buppa (my mom and dad) but it was awfully hard with this kid moving around nonstop! His smile is the cutest thing ever but he will not smile for the camera!

Annie, Tank, and I headed out on a 7:25 flight this morning (and I thought I was going to die on the take off- it was not fun taking off into a storm- my least favorite thing to do ever) so I was home in time for some coffee with Laura this afternoon and a few hours walking around the mall. I’m doing laundry now before heading to my mom and dad’s for the night since Jon has friends in town. Can’t be listening to a bunch of guys snoring all night long!

I plan to catch up on Nashville and The Bachelor tonight! I must say- I’m stoked.

Happenings of Home Life

We are FINALLY getting some beautiful weather in Georgia! A cold spell is on its way in, but I don’t even care! As long as it’s sunny, I’m happy!

Yesterday morning I lazed around and stayed in bed reading until 11:30! It felt so good. With all the traveling and working I’ve done in the last month, I really haven’t spent a ton of time relaxing (other than nightly Netflix documentaries with Jon). I really enjoyed just staying in my warm bed with my cats snoring next to me!

I ended up getting called into work as soon as I got up though, which was a bummer. I had planned on it happening but was still less than excited to get the call from my supervisor! So I headed into work for a few short hours and then as soon as I left work, I found out Jon was off early!

We decided to go try to enjoy the last bit of daylight and get in a Stone Mountain hike!

10919244_1524837484468695_580491879_n

I love the skyline from the top of Stone Mountain! And it was beautiful with the sun setting too! The skyline looks so small and far away in the picture, but it really is much bigger looking in person! My iPhone couldn’t capture Mt Hood either. Shame.

We ended up heading out to a new Whole Foods that I’ve heard good reviews about and had a quick dinner there. Then we hung out on the couch for the rest of the evening with the fireplace going! I can’t tell you all enough how much I love being home and relaxing on the couch with my husband and cats on a nightly basis!

Jon was off work today and I had my “intro” gym session since I just rejoined at LA Fitness, so we both headed out around 9am. I’m really trying to get him to be more active and thanks to all our Netflix documentaries about the food in the US, he’s on a much healthier eating kick too! (Side note: We have found that Costco actually has quite a bit of organic food for much cheaper, along with coconut oil and maple syrup for super cheap and it’s the good kind! Been cutting way down on our Whole Foods bill- although I still buy my meat from Whole Foods.)

My gym session was nice. I was surprised that I could still do 33 pushups in a row, especially after not working out for a full month. We did a lot of TRX type squats which took the weight off my hip and I could actually do! Unfortunately, you have to do the personal training there to be able to use the TRX stuff, but now I’m considering looking into TRX classes (I know it’s not cheap, but since I can’t do CrossFit right now, maybe it’s a good alternative). After being back in the gym finally, I see a huge regression in the healing of my hip after that road trip so that was a huge let down. I’m actually thinking I may need to go to rehab for it, but I’m obviously going to wait till I have a diagnosis from an MRI- which should hopefully happen in the beginning of February.

Jon and I decided to enjoy the beautiful day after the gym! We headed down to the Beltline  (a 10 mile paved trail) in Midtown and went for a walk and then headed out to get some coffee! Now we’re home and I’m about to shower and get ready.

I’m volunteering tonight (one of the nurse practitioners at work told me I have to before grad school- she also does interviews for programs at Georgia State and is writing my recommendation letter- so I’ll do what she says) at a health clinic. I am less than excited about it and have no clue what my role will be there. Hopefully something simple like handing out clipboards and checking vital signs! It should last from about 5:30-8:30 and then I imagine I’ll be watching another documentary with Jon tonight or reading a book by the fire!

Have a great day, everybody!

What do people call these posts where they make a list now? Coffee talks? Or something?

fa1fb52e9be33c88bddb827d30823666

Whatever. I’m just calling it “I’m too lazy to form any sort of train of thought, so you get numbers.”

1. I had such a good workout last night! I slept till 3 again (how do I do that?!) and then ate 1/2 a mashed banana scrambled with 1 egg and a little kefir so I’d have some energy. Then I just killed it at the gym! At least for what I can do with this hip. I ran a mile at 5.7 (running faster than 5.5 is so exciting- but I’m not pushing it till all my hip pain is gone so I think that’ll be the top of my range!) and then I’ve been working on inclines. I walk them since I don’t think running them is a good idea yet, but I did 1/2 a mile starting at an incline of 12 and going up every .1 miles. I have done this a few times and I’m dying by the end of the 1/2 mile (speed between 3.2-3.5). How do I even hike? Then I ran another 1/2 mile with an incline of 3. Definitely sweating! And then I worked out upper body and was done by the time I left! Felt great!

2. I made some Asian dish. I don’t know if it really counts, but I used peanut sauce.

IMG_7332-2

I used sugar snap peas, carrots, water chestnuts, broccoli, chicken, and basmati rice. It ended up being pretty good! I was impressed! Sorry for the horrible photo. Night time, bad plates, and my phone don’t work well together.

3. I feel so lazy for buying pre peeled mandarin oranges at Whole Foods, but I did it anyway! I’m sure it would have been cheaper to buy the whole thing, but I tend to buy oranges and let them all go bad because I hate peeling them so much! I ate one when I got home from the grocery store and I must say, it was divine, and there was no hassle.

IMG_7331

4. Jon sends me cat pictures occasionally and I always get so happy when he sends them! Tom is such a good little buddy and is always cuddling with Jon!

IMG_7333

5. Time to go. I work Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday this week! I bought some stuffing at Whole Foods to make on Thursday morning! I wanted to make this soufflé but didn’t want to buy a bag of sugar and Whole Foods doesn’t have canned pineapple. I made that recipe last year and it was so good! I’d definitely  recommend it for any of you needing a dish for a Thanksgiving meal! Not for those of you who want to eat clean on the holidays though!

Randoms!

1. I don’t think I’ve included this yet in my blog, but Jon is making the drive home with me! I have 19 days until he gets to Portland and I am way beyond excited! I was fine (missing him, of course, but nothing too crazy) until we booked his ticket to Portland and now that’s just about all I can think about! If you ever want to know how to make your first year of marriage work, just separate! Distance makes the heart grow fonder! Now I can enjoy my nightly hotel Forensic Files on the way home because I’ll have him to protect me and keep me safe!

2. My oldest sister is coming to an area close to Seattle next week with her fiancé! Hopefully the staffing coordinator at work will approve me to swap shifts with another girl so that I can actually go see her! It would be awesome to see Seattle (and I’m thinking I may spend the day beforehand up there too) and get to see my sister too!

3. My hip is finally getting better! I’ve been able to squat down at work without having any pain and I’ve noticed a decrease in the pain while I’m in bed (laying flat on my back and lifting my leg has been consistently very painful- finally improving!)! I may try to go to the gym this weekend and see how it feels there! I’ve noticed that every time it gets irritated, there’s a noticeable improvement in it when the irritation goes away. I won’t be going too crazy, but since I need to cancel my gym membership anyway, I might as well try to get a workout in! I’m really hoping to start squatting again by the first of the year, but I want to make sure I have a few weeks without pain first and I’ll most definitely be starting out at a very light weight (or no weight) and building back up.

4. While my hip is better, I’ve had a lot of left knee pain lately. I don’t know if I was somehow compensating for my hip on that side (thought my hip hasn’t bothered my while walking for awhile) or if my work shoes are screaming at my and telling me that they need to be replaced. Or maybe I just twisted it when I was getting out of the car and didn’t notice. Who knows! Not too concerned, but I’m tellin’ ya, I’m really feeling like my body is going downhill in my late 20s!

5. My roommate is making some Thanksgiving dinner in the crockpot and it smells amazing. I may have peeked in it (I know, you aren’t supposed to open a crockpot or it adds 30 minutes to the cooking time- or maybe that’s a lie- but I know she’s going to be cooking it plenty long enough tonight!) and saw turkey, stuffing, and green beans! What an awesome idea.

6. I got off work 1 1/2 hours early tonight. I normally wouldn’t have accepted an offer to leave early (I owe money if I’m short on hours), but I’m working Saturday night for a few hours for somebody and this allows me to give her another 1 1/2 hours off to spend with her husband! I’ll be heading down to bed in a few! It’s getting late.

7. I think my hormones have finally evened out after going off my birth control. I haven’t cried in awhile, so I’m hoping I’m back to normal! I can’t be crying regularly- that’s just not me!

8. BED TIME!

Getting Dressed and Getting Beer!

Another lazy day down in the books! I woke up at 9am and started doing business from bed! Jon called me with some current updates, which affects my job situation come January! Then I talked to my recruiters about my January job (I’m wanting to go to Santa Fe, NM!) and then called Jess to talk to her! Then I called Jon back to talk to him again! My hold up now is that Jon may have to travel coming up, and if he does, I don’t want our cats to be alone all week long! Our cats are not independent at all! They follow us around, get ready in the morning with us, join us in bed, and sit with us all the time! When it was just Kitty and me living alone, she would eat the fur out of her back when I was working a lot as a stress response! And Tom pees on the carpet when he gets angry (luckily, we only have one entry rug in our house now- but only cause he peed on all my other rugs and we have hardwoods in the whole house now- also why he can’t go to my parent’s house, which was my usual solution in my pre-Tom days).

1006315_882789266582_2045545975_n

Things are still unknown as of this time, so I may have to hold off on applying for jobs in Santa Fe and put my traveling on hold for the time being. I’m not ready for the traveling days to be behind me, but those little furballs have my heart and I could not leave them home alone for 4 days at a time for a few months! I would feel like such a guilty, horrible mother! I don’t think I could even enjoy traveling as much if I was worried about them at home! (My love for cats is serious business.)

After my business was complete, I fell back to sleep till 2pm. I’m getting in a bad habit of sleeping all day, but I’m calling this “resting my hip.” I woke up and headed out to the gym after eating a little something, but ended up skipping it and getting coffee instead! I decided to be smart and give my hip some more rest since it’s been a little achy lately.

Tonight I went out for beer with Adam! I got dressed for the third time in 6 weeks tonight!

1978838_10100188415106922_6017174196269761201_n

Sometimes I forget what it’s like to wear clothes and have my hair down (this was only the second time having my hair down in 6 weeks)! I actually kind of enjoy it at times, especially because lately it has happened so infrequently!

We went to Base Camp Brewing Co downtown and got smores stouts!

10353175_10100188415126882_4165125143696828277_n

I’ve really come to like stouts lately! I’ve still had my fair share of stouts that I don’t prefer, but there are definitely some good ones out there! This was a good one! And the toasted marshmallow (mine was the perfect one, Adam’s was the burnt one) was a bonus too! Adam reconfigured my external hard drive in about 5 seconds and then my computer spent an hour transferring pictures! I still need to transfer the photos from my other external hard drive over to the new one too!

Tomorrow is back to work for three days! I’m going to see about extending my contract by a week and I’m really hoping they let me! It would give me a chance to work another week before Jon gets here and that money would definitely help us out since both of us will be taking over 2 weeks off of work in December! I have no idea what is happening this weekend, but probably a lot of sleeping and being lazy! Seems to be my thing lately! And I’m just going totally enjoy it while I can and not feel guilty about laying in my nice, fleece sheets till 2pm anymore! I have a feeling these lazy days are only going to last for a few more months and I might as well soak it in! Those grad school days are coming!

I was hoping to curl up on the couch and catch up on some TV, but there’s no cable right now! I don’t even know why! It’s not even raining!!! Frustrating! I get tired of watching everything on my computer!

Working Out Through An Injury

As we’ve previously discussed multiple times now on this here blog, I popped my right hip at the bottom of a squat. No clue what happened (in the squat I do- I didn’t stretch enough beforehand and came out of the squat too quickly) to my hip. I was in such severe pain the first night that I couldn’t even sleep. I took 3 full weeks off from the gym entirely and tried not to do anything strenuous. I’ve been back a the gym for 3 weeks, but have been careful about doing anything that aggravates my hip and I have been going 2-3 times per week (all for less than 40 minutes each, and I do a lot of upper body lifts and run a mile in about 12 minutes every time I go).

I had a comment on my last post about how I should just hold off on the gym until it gets better, especially since I do occasionally go on (really short and easy) hikes and am still up and about all the time. I have always told people to rest with an injury! I tend to take time off completely when I have an injury. I didn’t initially with my thumb awhile back because I really though it was nothing. Once it was diagnosed, I stopped using it and started running.

So I thought to myself- why is it so hard for me to just not go to the gym right now?!

I think the big reason really is my sanity. When I took 3 months off the gym for my thumb, I was busy! I was just moving into my condo. I went to Europe for 3 weeks. It was summer and I hung out with all my friends! Jon and I were in our early stages of dating again! I hate tons to do!

Now… I’m in Washington/Oregon alone. I have two friends here and one has a kid. They both work 9-5 jobs and also have lives outside of me (how dare they!). I get bored and I get lonely and I get grumpy. Those endorphins keep me going! I can be in a foul mood and that trip to the gym just resets me!

I also finally feel like I got back in the habit of the gym. I’ve always been really all or nothing with the gym. I either skip an entire month (or four) or I go all the time. There’s not much of a gray area! Lately, I’ve started seeing things other than CrossFit as exercise for me, and now even see things like hiking as exercise. It was hard for me to see anything where my heart race doesn’t really get up and I work up a huge sweat as a workout. I’ve been working on my overall fitness level in general and have really wanted to stay in the habit of going to the gym on a regular basis (whether that be 5 times a week or 2-3, I just don’t want to go an entire month or more without going anymore).

There’s two big reasons for that: 1. I really and truly believe in the good of exercise. I think it’s absolutely crucial to living a long healthy life and I see too many lives suffering because people didn’t care for their health (thank you, nursing). I can’t just preach everything and then do something completely different. 2. Jon and I have decided to have kids in the nearer future than we originally planned. I know it takes time to make something an actual habit (for a lifetime- not just a month long while I have time for it). My life will be crazy- working, grad school, and momming it (I can’t believe I’m referring to myself as a mom- weird). I need to make sure now that I will make time in the future to go to the gym, despite my crazy life, because I need to. I need to start creating a lifelong habit when my life actually allows for that (hello 36 hours of work a week with no other commitments at all). This is the least stressful my life has been in years. Maybe ever, aside from my deployment! (Thanks to not being a student and not working any overtime!)

We all know I used to struggle pretty severely with depression for years. I’d say at least a good five years, and there were frequently times where I felt suicidal. I absolutely worry about postpartum depression and know that in the past, staying active has really helped with that. So I want to know that if my life is crazy and I feel overwhelmed, that I will look to the one thing that has worked well in the past, and that’s being active. With the habit I’m creating now, I’m hoping to curb that postpartum depression (and hopefully that doesn’t happen to me, but I’m honestly going to be very shocked if it doesn’t) in the future.

So, as of now, because I have no diagnosis of what’s wrong, I can keep on going with my more minimal workouts. If I prolong the healing by a few weeks, then so be it. I’m not in a hurry to get back to CrossFit (that’s sort of a lie- I actually really want to go back, but I feel patient about not being able to for awhile) and I’m definitely not trying to run any races in my near future! I sort of feel like the overall emotional benefit is going to take precedence over the physical benefits of not going to the gym at this time.

This outlook may change in the future. I may get frustrated with the daily pain. I may decide I do just want to get back to CrossFit once and for all. But I’m not there yet.

1st Day Back at the Gym!

I went to the gym today! WOOHOO! I struggled through waking up at 10:30 in order to go get my fingerprints done, but I knew it had to get done. I was so tired and unmotivated, but I somehow managed to convince myself to just go look at a gym today and sign up for the membership. Then I managed to convince myself to just get some sort of workout done!

I ran 1/2 mile at 5.3-5.5 and 0 incline. I was going to go for a mile but I was so bored with running that slow that I quit. I couldn’t increase it at all because if I got any faster, my hip was “there.” Not painful, but noticeable. I did Russian deadlifts and felt comfortable as long as I kept them under 100#. When I went over that, it was more painful. I actually felt like my hip was pretty stiff and it was irritated walking around towards the end, but it feels back to normal now. No more pain than before I went at all. I’m just bummed at how limited my gym capabilities are and am really looking forward to this being behind me!

I got some Dutch Bros. coffee after and the gym + coffee managed to put a little pep in my step.

10729323_1507262526195488_1829097034_n

With all this dreary weather and nearly constant drizzle, it’s hard to get anything done other than sleeping in and sitting on the couch!

I had to go grab some things at Target and ended up buying two shirts and then went to Ross and bought a pair of shoes (like I need black booties- probably not- but I will eventually wear them). I grabbed some food at Whole Foods and am now hanging out at home!

Juliette and Roy just got home, so I’m going to go visit with them. I’m hoping to get up early and maybe go get a hike done. I plan on heading out Sunday for Crater Lake!

Gym Time & Portland

I had to work 7a-7p yesterday (always a bummer going into work when Jon is cuddled up in bed). Luckily, it wasn’t awful. My first 8 hours was easy and the last 4 were busy, but I can do anything for 4 hours! I met up with Laura afterwards for some Mexican and then headed home. Jon was sound asleep when I got home at 9pm, so I hung out for a bit and then spent an hour (literally) watching the cats kill a cockroach. Such little killers. I headed to bed after the excitement ended with Tom eating half of the unfortunate nasty little fellow.

Holy smokes, I slept until 11:45 today! I woke up at 9 and was feeling somewhat motivated to get up, but then noticed Tom sleeping at the end of the bed. I got up for a minute and decided laying back down sounded even better than starting my day. It was dreary (I think I forgot how rainy Georgia is- at least Portland shouldn’t seem so miserable after this weather) and a perfect sleeping morning!

I barely managed to get up at 11:45 but decided I needed to get the gym in or would risk missing it completely today. I was completely unmotivated at the gym and was starving, but I didn’t wake up in time to eat. Fail.

Strength:
Squat Clean- 3 reps @70%, 2@75%, 2@80%, 1@85%, 1@90%, 1@90% perform reps every 90 seconds (I have no idea what I did, but I ended up at 90#, which was really surprising since that’s 90% of my bodyweight and I don’t even try to lift heavy these days)

WOD: (Finished in 7:53)
21-15-9
OHS-115# (I did front squats at 65# since I don’t do OHS because of my thumb)
Toes to Bar

Midline: (I did one round of this and then left since it was 1:10 and I had things to do)
A. 60 second Front Leaning Raise (Leaning onto rings)
Rest 60 seconds
B. 60 seconds of Hollow Rocks
Rest 60 seconds
X 3

It was a good workout and I was glad I made it! Afterwards, I had to head to the grocery store in the rain and traffic was so bad! I forgot how I always seem to time my grocery shopping perfectly with the rainy days, too (although, when it rains 75% of the time, I guess that’s easy to do). I ran into Whole Foods and grabbed some stuff and made a mad dash back home. I threw together some eggs and bananas and ate some squash from the WF bar, and then headed out to my eye appointment.

My eyes are still getting worse! No need to repeat my Lasik yet since they get worse every year still. I was tempted to get another pair of glasses with my new prescription, but they were a little pricey and since I only wear my glasses for driving and TV watching, I decided against it.

I’m home now, eating some dinner (bacon, maple sweet potatoes, and apples sautéed in coconut oil and cinnamon) and then probably heading down to see Kassie, Carly (Kassie’s friend from Spain- she lives in Cali now), and Gina. It’s always fun to see Carly when she comes in town so I’m excited about it, but I won’t lie- I’m tempted to stay at home in this rainy weather and just have a movie night/paper writing party (for my missed skills day at work) with Jon. Traffic is awful in the rain and I already heard a bunch of accidents on the radio report, so not looking forward to heading into the city. And I’m just sleepy and lazy after spending too much time in bed last night.

Oh, and last bit of news! Portland is a go! The hospital said they really wanted me and switched me back to evenings. I’m glad this is working out since it really would have messed up my plans had it not (with mine and Jon’s Cali trip and with the next assignment with Jessica), but I’m getting really sad to leave Jon on Monday. I hate that I have to leave him and it feels so good to be home for these two weeks. Part of me just wants to call it a day and end the traveling,  but I know I’m not ready yet. I need to save more money for grad school still and I’m not ready to be back at my job here for good yet. Still need more of a break! Once I get out there, I’ll be happy! But right now, leaving Jon is looming overhead!

Georgia Time & Haircuts

It’s Wednesday evening but I’ll post this for Thursday, since I’ll be working tomorrow (waaahhhh) and all. It really is so nice being home and I really wish I had stuck with my 3 week rule between assignments, but I’ll manage with these two! At least it’s more than I was home in the middle of my Plymouth assignment! I get to relax a little bit more and Jon is still having to work, so I get some alone time at the house which is really my favorite.

Tuesday was spent cleaning and getting my hair cut! I was so stinkin’ excited about my hair cut! I must have told Jon how excited I was about 12,000 times on our drive home on Monday. As a matter of fact, I told him so many times that he told me I was annoying him by repeating the same thing over and over again. Clearly men don’t get hair cuts. I could still rock my hair wavy, but straight was a mess. The ends were just all over the place and it wasn’t cute. See below (I’m the short one with too long of hair).

Malcolm worked his magic on my hair and I am SO GLAD that it is shorter now!

After my hair cut, I threw together some chili in the crock pot and then Laura and I went and got ice cream together and had a nice relaxing evening. It was a beautiful night out and I am loving the Georgia weather right now! Spring and fall are the best times of the year!

I had a weird filter on when Jon took the photo (I was wondering why all my cat pictures were coming out weird- fancy iPhones have too many options for me) so I ended up having to do my best to make it look more normal. But there’s my shorter hair! And me and Laura, of course. I’m hoping to be able to see her some more while I’m home, but it’s always so busy trying to fit in family time, husband/wife time, and friend time… AND me time (which is usually during the day while everybody works).

Jon and I made a quick Target run last night (need my shower caps and mine stretched out too much!) and then we went for a drive across from our house so I can learn to drive his Jeep. I used to drive it home from Florida occasionally but that was over 3 years ago. He wants to trade his Jeep in for a 4 door newer Jeep, but I told him he can’t trade in the Jeep for another manual until he teaches me how to drive it! I’m tired of only having one car that we can both drive! I actually did pretty well last night but I need way more practice before I go on any bigger roads!

Today I got a last minute phone call that my dentist had an opening for a cleaning, so I rushed out of bed to make it there to get these whites whiter. I kid. They’re not any whiter. But they are clean and the dentist adjusted the bite on my crown and my mouth feels 100x better now! I’ve been waiting to come home to have it done so my tooth has been super sensitive!

I made it to CrossFit in the afternoon! I was excited to go back to one of my old gyms, but nobody I knew was there! The owner came by briefly but there was a coach I’d never seen. Regardless, I had a good workout! We did 30 chest to bar pull-ups, 60 wall balls (I did 12#), and 90 double unders. I finished in 13:23, thanks to my double unders taking me 8 minutes. Felt good to sweat! It was also awkward cause the new coach asked how long I’ve been going to that gym. I said I had only gone for about 6 months prior to taking my travel assignment but that I had “been to other gyms before.” She then told me how great I was doing at everything and asked me if I can do handstands. I get it’s good to ask, but I got from her tone of asking that she was asking cause she thought I was new (also, by the amount of times she told me I have great pull ups). Then I didn’t want to be like, “Aaaaactualllly I’ve been doing it for 5 years,” so I just let it go. She was nice, regardless of how new she thinks I am. Maybe I should enjoy that she thinks I’m just some awesome person.

I’d like to say that I enjoyed the beautiful fall day taking a walk or going to the park, but I didn’t. Instead I came home and cleaned 13 weeks of fur off the floors. Jon just told me the other day that the cats don’t shed. They do. I tried to tell him that they do, but he said they don’t. I’m sure he has no idea they shed because I clean up the fur when I’m home and while I’m gone, it just accumulates under EVERYTHING on the floors. It was a serious job today. But the house is now spotless and I’m a happy woman!

This evening I headed to my parent’s with Jon. We hung out for a bit before going to Home Goods to look for a TV stand. We left with two nightstands for the guest bedroom (which is currently our roommate’s room). Coming home always breaks the bank because I don’t pay for anything while I travel. But then I come home and go to the dentist and get my hair cut (which is usually accompanied by a trip to Von Maur as well- the damage this time was only $21, not bad!!!), get my eyes checked, get my emissions done so I can get my registration this month for my car again… And then I make barely any money while I’m home and take time off work. Can’t wait to get some paychecks again! Travel nurse ones. Weekly.

Time to head to bed soon. Jon’s probably passed out already and I have to be at work at 7am, so gotta get some Zzzzzs.
