Gender Reveal Party and CrossFit

Happy Thursday! I’m off today (obviously) and tomorrow, but it’s back to work this weekend! Sad face.

Monday was another missed workout day. I had my very first case of vertigo that put me out of the gym at 10am due to lack of sleep and fear of the vertigo coming back with changing positions too much. So I spent the majority of my day lazing around and watching trash TV.

Monday evening was my Gender Reveal “Party.” I went in the afternoon to CamiCakes to pick up a random assortment of cupcakes to stuff with colored icing myself.

camicakes

I had to buy myself a mini one to eat right away and it was SO GOOD. I’ve never had CamiCakes before but I’m sold. I’m not a huge cake person in general, but something about this baby is making me crave sweets nonstop and I’ve been really wanting cupcakes lately. It was like a little piece of heaven. Far better than any other cupcake I’ve ever had.

I spent the afternoon cooking and stuffing the cupcakes with green food coloring (it went fairly well, except one ended up with no green icing inside and Gina was the poor recipient of that one, so she didn’t get the surprise, haha).

Kassie, Gina, and Laura were all here by 6pm! We cut the cake for the reveal and they were all excited about a baby boy! They all thought I was having a girl cause they thought I would have been more depressed if it was a boy, haha. I’m still disappointed about having a boy, but I’m excited too. It’s still going to be my baby. We all ate some chili (yay chili! it’s fall!) and took ridiculous photos. Then we dug into our cupcakes and let me just tell you, if you can get to a CamiCakes, order a cinnamon swirl and a sweet potato cupcake. Those two were out of this world. I told myself like a month ago today that I’d start eating better, but it’s taking all of my willpower not to go get more cupcakes.

Tuesday and Wednesday were work days for me. Unfortunately, my amazing pregnancy took a bit of a turn and I’m now having some horrible lower back pain. I couldn’t figure out what exactly was going on but it was making work absolutely miserable. Last night, Jon massaged my lower back and everything was extremely painful. I woke up with back pain last night (and Jackson going crazy in my belly).

We did make it out to trivia last night, which was a lot of fun but also kind of miserable to sit in a booth for two hours. I’m feeling more comfortable with the trivia group (there are only usually 6 or 7 of us) so it’s more enjoyable to go to now. I’m hoping we start back up with going since it’s nice to have some social time.

This morning I was supposed to go to an 8am CrossFit class via ClassPass, but instead I set my alarm for 8am. Awesome. They seemed laid back last time I went (most CrossFit gyms are), so I went to the 10am class instead. I was still uncomfortable before going (but my back pain wasn’t as bad- it’s usually not until after being on my feet for a few hours during the day and then it just gets miserable) but I will say that this has been one of my harder workouts for sure. Running makes me have to pee with every. single. step. so I rowed for my 2nd and 3rd rounds (800m each) and that was miserable too. I have to row at a pace of 2:35-2:55/500m in order to breathe enough where I feel like Jackson gets some Os too, and then I can’t lean forward cause it feels like I have a watermelon in my pelvis and I can’t lean back cause it strains my abs. And my back pain started up during the workout and yeah, rough. But I’m not quitting the gym if I can avoid it. I’ll just suffer and waddle through workouts if I have to.

I did read today that this is the time where my ligaments loosen up and your center of gravity really starts shifting, so lower back pain is a common complaint now. I was relieved to read that cause I really felt like it was way too early to be having back pain (I’ve only gained 10lbs) and everybody at work seemed so surprised when I told them how I was feeling. The stuff I read didn’t mention if it gets better though. I have an OB appointment tomorrow, so I’m going to discuss it with my doctor.

Today will be spent doing schoolwork and heading over to my parent’s house. I’m spending the night there since I haven’t seen them in awhile and they’ll be going out of town soon. My doctor is closer to their house anyway. I need to finish up a book too cause Monday is our next book club meeting and I’m only 14 pages into our book. Oops.

I’ll leave you all with a picture of me today (excuse everything but my belly- I just got home from the gym). I’m finally at the point of feeling like I actually look like I’m pregnant instead of just looking like I drink too many beers. I also felt like my belly was stuck at the same size for weeks on end and these last two days I’ve felt bigger. (I’ll be 18 weeks on Saturday.)

Mary Mac’s, Gender Reveal, Taste of Atlanta, Trainwreck, and Cat Cuddles

What a crazy weekend already and it’s not even over yet (thankfully!). Yesterday was another no gym day. I haven’t gone since Tuesday, but I guess after starting back at CrossFit regularly, maybe my body just needed a break. I haven’t really felt like working out so I figure I should take a few days off. Instead, I managed to finally clean our entire house- bathrooms and floors included! About dang time. I also may have had the Whole Foods hot bar for breakfast, consisting of French toast and quiche. And bacon. I also may have spooned with FatCat while catching up on trashy TV.

liztomcuddles

Jon got home from work around 5 and we finished a few things around the house. We had been planning on a fancy date night last night for quite some time, but we lost the gift card we were going to use. We decided we might as well go out somewhere else in hopes of finding the gift card later on, but then I decided I didn’t feel like getting super fancy. Instead, I showered and threw on a dress and we headed out the door.

16 weeks pregnant

16 weeks 6 days pregnant.

I was really in the mood for Mary Mac’s, which is a famous southern restaurant in Atlanta. We definitely didn’t even need to be in dresses to go there, but it was still fun to get somewhat dressed up (since I usually live in Target v-necks). Jon has never been there and I’ve only gone twice, but it was better than I remembered! I stuffed my face and felt so incredibly full afterwards (I used to never eat to the point of being full before getting pregnant- I need to stop because it is such an awful feeling).

mary macs

Sweet potato soufflé on the left there was AMAZING. Also, chicken pot pie, fried green tomatoes, and mac & cheese. All so freaking delicious.

We talked about going out and doing something after since our date literally lasted a whole 45 minutes, but one of us (not me) had a bathroom emergency so we went home. Totally fine with me though. We’ve already talked about how much I love sleeping lately.

Turns out, I did a lot of tossing and turning last night in anticipation of our gender reveal ultrasound this morning! I was up at 7am and wanting to sleep! I thought about going to the gym, but instead cuddled with Tom and Jon and I tried to eat breakfast. Unfortunately, I was feeling pretty sick from eating so unhealthy yesterday. Jon and I decided to go get coffee before our appointment, so we got ready and left.

I decided there was no way I could drink any coffee with how disgusting I was feeling, but then I ended up getting a quiche at a new French place we decided to try, Douceur de France. The quiche was delicious and I’d definitely go back, but I left feeling even worse (surprise).

We got to our appointment for our gender reveal a few minutes early. We read some horrible reviews about the place on Yelp, but it was totally great! We were in and out within 20 minutes. Once we got back to the room, I took my seat on the table. They have the ultrasound screen projected up onto the wall so it’s huge. Of course, I was pretty much just dying to hear that this baby is a girl! The ultrasound tech (who was fantastic) started out by finding the head and showing us the spine. The baby was laying on its side. She played the heartbeat for us and it made me cry! I cried hearing the heartbeat at the last ultrasound too, and even just listening to it at the doctor’s office for 15 seconds got me all choked up. I don’t know what it is about hearing the heartbeat! Anyway, she had to poke and prod the baby around to get it to spread its legs. I had no idea what was on the screen, but Jon said, “I think I see what I need to see!” I was totally hoping he was wrong about that cause he wanted a boy! After another minute or so, the ultrasound tech said, “Well, that’s a boy! There’s one leg and there’s the other, and there’s the tip of the penis!” AH NO! Not even going to lie, I was totally disappointed! I was so sure it was a girl! I’m still mourning the loss of my future mother/daughter relationship too! We didn’t get any pictures (you had to pay another $20 so we decided to wait until we get them for free at the doctor’s office) and we weren’t allowed to take any, so it was completely an undocumented experience. Fine by me. I don’t think I’ll forget it. We left and made some calls and sent some texts and went on with our day, with our new baby boy in my belly! His name is Jackson, but we have yet to pick out a middle name. But we may just go with the first name only. We’re considering skipping the middle name. Also, I have determined that I definitely can feel Jackson moving. I’ve felt what feels like a rolling down in my lower abdomen when I lay flat at times, but it usually happens once and not again for a few days. Tonight, I felt it like crazy. I could even feel little blubs on the outside which is surprising, but I’m so thin that I’m guessing it’s not as hard to feel big movements on the outside.

After we left, we swung by the house to grab ponchos and headed to Atlanta for Taste of Atlanta. You basically pay the entrance fee and then can load points onto an armband to get food samples from restaurants in Atlanta. I was feeling somewhat decent at that point (still not great) so at least I got to enjoy some food. I didn’t try everything that I wanted, but I had an amazing pumpkin soup there from a cafe just near our house, Egg Harbor Cafe. I will definitely be going there for that soup again. So good! Unfortunately, it rained on us the entire time we were there, but we didn’t let it ruin our moods! Also, as soon as we walked up to the entrance, my flip flop broke! What a bummer, but thankfully I had thrown boots in the Jeep just in case my feet got cold!

taste of atlanta

We finally decided to go see Trainwreck since I’ve been wanting to see it for so long and we always think of it way too late at night to go! Since we waited so long, we had to drive kind of far to go see it, but it was worth it! I really enjoyed the movie!

We got home around 8pm and we were planning on going downtown to a barbecue place to watch bluegrass, but I bailed. I had Jon invite his friend, Andrew, to go so I could finish up my paper that’s due tomorrow and relax on the couch with Tom.

IMG_1122

He’s taking his cuddles very seriously.

I’m still feeling super sick, so I think tomorrow will be spent eating all fruit and veggies to get me back on track. My body isn’t  anywhere used to eating how I’ve been eating the last two days and I’m paying for it big time. Yuck. Have a good night and I’m sure I’ll check back in later!

Life Updates & Baby Bumps

Happy Wednesday! Any day off work is a happy day for me! I thought I’d feel like I was working less hours, but I don’t lately. I’ve still been working a fair amount because of orientation at my new job, plus having to get in hours in the ER still. The new job is going well though. I’m feeling like I’m getting the hang of things, but I’ve only taken three patients so far and it’s hard to imagine taking 5 or 6. I believe I have another four orientation days, but one of those should be getting certified with the IV team and doing admissions. I’m actually nervous about having to get certified with the IV team because I really hate being watched when I’m in that “orientation” role, if that makes sense. I’ve had plenty of nurses watch me start IVs, but when I know they’re judging how I do it, I just feel shy! And I haven’t worked with adults in the ER in awhile, so my IV starts have been much fewer than usual so I’m worried I’ll miss a bunch of easy IVs. (Probably all ridiculous thoughts since I’ve been starting IVs regularly for 5 years now.) So, the job is going well. I should probably check my mail and see if I have my first paycheck yet since it’s not direct deposited till the second check!

The pregnancy is going well. My food aversions are still gone, thankfully, but I do tend to get cravings for stuff easily, especially if I smell something or see somebody else eating something. Then that’s all I think about. I had an EKG class last week and saw a guy eating a sandwich that looked like a tuna melt, and I literally craved tuna with cheese melted on it for the next hour. I couldn’t even focus on the class because I was so focused on getting tuna for lunch. Then I ate it and spent the next hour wondering if it was albacore or white fish tuna and how much mercury I just consumed. I also have a serious case of pregnancy brain. I always thought this started later in pregnancy, but I assure you that it’s in full swing. Last night I found yogurt in my fridge and couldn’t find the lid anywhere. I get up at work and walk somewhere and then have absolutely no idea what I was doing. I open a tab at work and can’t remember what I wanted to chart. I have conversations and then can’t remember anything the person said, even when I need to know (like at work). It’s crazy. All these things used to happen before I was pregnant too (not the yogurt), but it’s just one after another. All day long I feel like I’m wandering around lost. I also spend a ridiculous amount of time convincing people that I’m not showing and that I’m just bloated. I was supposed to have genetic testing done Friday, but somebody from the office called today and said I’d owe $900 out of pocket. No thanks! I don’t really care about genetic testing anyway! Neither of our families have any history of genetic abnormalities so no way am I paying that, especially when it won’t even apply to the deductible for the delivery (since I deliver next year).

baby bump

Good example here! Left photo is at 9wks2days, first thing in the morning. The second photo was first thing in the morning, but on Monday (11wks2days) right after being insanely bloated all weekend from the food at Kassie’s wedding. The third photo was also first thing in the morning, but on Tuesday after eating much better all day Monday. No baby yet. That’s all bloat in the second picture, and the other ones are how I usually look!

I’ve still been working out! I get out of breath way more easily and I also get completely exhausted way more easily, but it has been good to stay active. I was actually super excited to try the CrossFit gym close by and the WOD today looked great, but when I just went to sign up, it didn’t show up. They may close their registration early, but all the other noon classes are available every other day. Doesn’t make sense. So I’m going to one of my favorites tonight, Elite Edge, for my first arm night there.

Laura and I are leaving this Saturday morning for a trip to Wyoming. We’re driving out, so we’re spending a night in Kansas City so we can see the Power and Light District, and then heading out to do an afternoon at Medicine Bow (WY) and we’ll be staying just outside Grand Tetons. We’ll go into Yellowstone as well, so this afternoon I need to spend a little time figuring out how to get the most out of the parks in just a few short days! I can’t wait for the trip and really wish we could go for longer, but it’s going to be so fun! After this, I’ll be saving money again for spring tuition, baby items, and delivery bills. So I better make the most of this trip! I am loving that I’m going with Laura though, so all bills are split between us. For any of you single folk, enjoy your vacations with friends! It is much harder to see the cost of a two person trip to come out of one bank account!

Well, that’s about all! I’ll be spending my day cleaning the house (one last deep clean before school starts- the floors don’t get cleaned nearly as much when I’m in school!) and finishing up my online orientation for grad school! I need to make sure I have all my books ready since school starts Monday (while I’m on vacation, bummer)! I also need to run to the grocery store for a few small things (I want to eat all the gala apples!!!!!!). Perhaps I’ll buy a new crockpot too, since mine leaks dirty food water all over the place (how is that even possible?!) so I finally threw it out after it leaked all over onto my floor last time… So, nothing exciting in my future. Just a much needed productive day so that I can spend Friday packing, getting food prepared for our trip, and having dinner with Crista before Jon gets home!

Everybody enjoy your day!

Kassie’s Wedding Weekend!

What a fun/busy week! I’ll update you guys on just the weekend and maybe tomorrow I’ll do a random updates post! It was Kassie’s wedding weekend this past weekend! FINALLY! I don’t have many married friends and I haven’t ever been a bridesmaid in a wedding before (I won’t count my sister’s when I was 11- I just showed up and wore a hideous dress with equally hideous hair). I’m really loving going to weddings lately but was even more excited about actually getting to be in one! Considering I don’t have many friends (and especially not close friends), I know this will only happen one or two more times!

The wedding was an all weekend affair! It started on Friday, when I picked Gina up around 3:30 to head down to the lake where the wedding was being held. Kassie basically found a huge rental house on VRBO with another little house on the property, all on the lake. So the wedding party was able to stay at the house and there was plenty of room!

Once we arrived, we had some down time until we did a quick rehearsal followed by a Mexican buffet! Having Mexican catered was the way to go! I’d seriously consider doing that for a wedding too! The food was so good and oddly enough, from a place right near my house that I have always thought looked really sketchy (Kassie’s now-husband grew up not even a few miles from my house, and they catered the dinner so I guess they know the good spots nearby!). We spent our evening making bouquets and having some girl time.

Awesome view from the deck.

Saturday was wedding day! We started off with a little breakfast and then did a few random wedding set-up tasks. Around 10:30, we all started getting ready. We were all doing our own hair and make-up, and my hair pretty much looked like my usual from the front, but I used all bobby pins in the back. I got a ton of compliments on it, so I guess I did okay! Kassie and Billy did their first look photos at 2pm and then we started our photos, so it was a totally different feel than my wedding. I only had the girls get ready with me on my wedding day and then Jon and I didn’t see each other before the wedding. My guests weren’t allowed to come into the reception area where we were, so it was a little more formal (despite how ridiculously casual our wedding was). We had tons of girls there for Kassie’s wedding throughout the day and then guests showed up in the house before the ceremony.

The ceremony was really nice and Kassie had her matron-of-honor’s husband marry them. During the ceremony, a huge bee landed on the bouquet that Hallie (matron-of-honor) was holding! We were laughing so hard during the ceremony and come to find out, Kass thought I was crying like a mess from pregnancy hormones, so she apparently was laughing too. It was so fun to watch my best friend of 15 years finally get married!

After the ceremony, we had some southern home cooking by the groom’s family and Nothing Bundt Cake cupcakes (my favorite!). We danced the night away next to the lake and had a great time!

Fun fact: This dress was so insanely tight up top after getting pregnant. These girls did not enjoy fitting into that dress for the night.

The wedding party decided to jump in the pool in our clothes which was a fun ending to the night!

IMG_4110 11111

IMG_4115 11111

Since some couples were camping out and other couples were staying in the house, we were able to have a late night, so it was much different than traditional weddings! Since I have to be a Sober Sally these days, I decided to head home around 2am so I could get a good night of sleep! The party was winding down around then anyway so I didn’t feel like I was missing out! It took about an hour to get home, so I was able to get in bed around 3am and catch some sleep before my Sunday!

New Jobs vs. Old Jobs

It has been a rough two days at work! Apparently between the increase in heart rate that you have during pregnancy and probably just having too much on my mind, I haven’t been sleeping well at all! I also feel like I’m in a fog a lot of times (which I actually noticed the day before and the day I found out I was pregnant), so work has been really less than pleasant lately. Not to mention the fact that I’m just burnt out. I’m getting irritated much more easily and am just over it. So yesterday and today really just kicked my butt.

11232280_10100297203773562_7955128749404843262_n

One of my good work buds texted me this after work (after I let her know that I did not quit my job before 7pm and made it through my shift!). Definitely summed up my day! I don’t even know how I keep it together sometimes.

However, on the job front, I had my interview with the cardiac floor the other day. It went pretty well, aside from me answering a question totally wrong (I was thinking of the wrong letters), and I actually enjoyed the interview. It was weird being back on the floor I worked on years ago! It smelled the same and everything! The only downfall is that the pay is a big pay cut. In order to take this job, I will have to drop my hours at my current job, which will cost me $5 an hour just at that job. And the pay cut from what I make now to this other job? $13 an hour. I honestly don’t even want to think about that, because just that thought stresses me out.

Another big downfall is that even though I only had to work 4 shifts a month, I’m on a rotating every 3rd weekend schedule and I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much I hate that. One of the best parts of my job is that I can pick and choose my weekends, even if I do have to work four weekend days per month.

I had to really think about this the other morning. Will I accept a job that I will be unhappy with my weekend schedule at, and that will end up costing me hundreds of dollars a month in income? But, sometimes I just have to focus on where this job will get me in the future, even though I may not love it now.

It’s a break from my current job. The ER is wearing me down and I honestly considered quitting today. I’m just so incredibly burnt out from that place! So it’ll change up my work schedule and I’ll go to another place to do part of my shifts, while still making somewhat decent pay (even if it does suck in comparison to what I make right now). I gain experience in another area, making me more marketable for future clinical nursing jobs and future management jobs. They sound like they have a lot of management opportunities from within, so it may be a good place to get my feet wet. And lastly, it’s a per diem job. I won’t find a job that will take me into a brand new field of nursing (for me) and only require me to work four days a month on day shift. I caught this floor at a desperate time.

So, sometimes you just have to do things you don’t want to do, in order to come out where you want to be. If I hate it, I quit. If I don’t hate it, well then, I’m really winning then, huh?

Hard Exercise Works, Yummy Salmon, and Lazy Days

Happy Friday! It’s not really feeling like Friday for me since I work all weekend, but I’m having a nice relaxing day off! I go into 16 hours of overtime this week, so I’ll just enjoy my lazy afternoon. I had planned on going to a CrossFit class this afternoon, but I’m not sure if I’m feeling the gym today. Undecided. I won’t be able to work out till Monday though because of work tomorrow and Sunday, so I’m thinking I should go, but then again, my PJs and couch time is feeling fantastic too!

I want to start with a quick dinner I made on Wednesday night! When Jon and I were in Florida, we stopped to get Publix subs and tried a sample of some salmon that was delicious! They were giving away cards with the recipe so I grabbed one. Jon and I finally made it when I got off work and I was extremely pleased with how it turned out!

salmon with capers and golden raisins

I already ate half of it before snapping a picture to show his sister, but if any of you out there like salmon, I recommend trying this! It was super easy to make. My tip: Buy golden raisins from Trader Joe’s. They have the best golden raisins out there by far. Also, we made about 1lb of salmon with the topping and that was good, so I’d make extra for more salmon. Oh, and I didn’t have herb garlic butter, so I added a heaping tablespoon of minced garlic (from the jars) to 4 tbspns of butter and heated it up on the stove and then just combined that with the rest of the topping. And I didn’t zest any lemons. Let’s be real. I’m too lazy for that.

IMG_8981

I tried a new ClassPass class yesterday! I actually really had fun there and will definitely go there again! It was one of the Hard Exercise Works classes. The only really off-putting part of the class was that we started with clean and jerks and the coach didn’t even go over how to stand up out of a jerk! She demonstrated a split jerk, and then when she stood up, she brought her back leg forward, all the way even with her front leg. On a split jerk, the front leg comes back, then the back leg comes forward to meet it. I know it’s small, but if you want to teach olympic lifts, then know how to teach them properly. This was definitely a CrossFit-esque gym, but they said their difference is that they don’t go into heavy lifts as much (strange that I went on a day where we found a 1 rep max on C&J). It made me grateful for the good CrossFit coaches I’ve had that ingrained proper technique into me.

After my workout, I stopped home to shower and then met Laura out for sushi! I have really been craving sushi lately, so I was super excited to get some! Sadly, my shrimp tempura roll tasted a little strange. I’ve had the same thing from there many times so I know it’s not the norm, but it was a little disappointing. I also stopped by Costco after since sushi is right next door and was super excited to find that they have organic strawberries out now! 2 pints for $7.99!

Jon and I watched two episodes of House of Cards last night. I’ve heard really good things about it, but I’m just now getting into it after 3 episodes. I’m not really into politics so it can be kind of hard for me to follow at times. I think it’ll be easier to follow once the full storyline develops, but we had to pause it a few times for Jon to explain the first few episodes to me. And the way Kevin Spacey speaks in the show drives me insane. (Fun fact: I apparently had no idea who Kevin Spacey was. I’m not a movie watcher nor do I care about famous people, but that is totally not who I imagined as being Kevin Spacey. He kind of reminds me of my dad too, even though I assure you that nobody has ever looked at my dad and thought “woah, you really look like Kevin Spacey.”)

I slept in till 10 today (holy moly) and decided to start my day with making pancakes for work mornings. I really despise making pancakes for work, but I spent well over an hour doing it.

IMG_8970

All I used in these were protein powder, sweet potatoes, and eggs. Too lazy to add anything else (for one baked sweet potato, I add 4 eggs and 1-2 heaping scoops of chocolate protein powder- this was 3 sweet potatoes here).

Then I made myself some brekkie of hash browns, chives, cheese, and sour cream (baked potato style) and it was so dang good. I don’t know why I’ve never thought of this before! I was inspired apparently since Jon and I made potato pancakes to eat with out salmon the other night so I had everything available. Pretty sure I’ll be making this regularly.

IMG_8964

I had planned on cleaning the floors this afternoon but totally sat down on the couch to eat breakfast and file my nails and then got started on the new Real Housewives of Melbourne and my productivity has gone down the drain. I think soon I’ll have motivation to either clean the floors or go to the gym. Not both. But definitely one or the other.

IMG_8980

Off to enjoy some more company with this guy before Jon gets home from work. Have a great weekend, everybody!

Gravity Studio, Wedding Dress Shopping, and Travel Nurse Dinner

Happy Monday Funday! I had a pretty awesome weekend and Monday! On Friday, I had a STEMI Summit that ended up being really, really, really boring. I was bummed cause I was actually really looking forward to the conference because cardiology fascinates me! But the speakers that were there were really less than stellar and didn’t hold anybody’s attention. I decided to dip out at 4pm cause I couldn’t handle it anymore!

That night, Haley (my new “roommate”) and I went out to have dinner with a few other Atlanta based travel nurses. It was actually a lot of fun and one of the old nurses I used to work with while I was a tech was at dinner too.

10363673_10206499335549293_2078482206290039057_n

We stayed out until 10:30 and I really felt like I was getting crazy! Is it sad that I don’t even know the last time I stayed out till 10:30? (Surely it wasn’t that long ago! I just can’t recall it. Right?) I was definitely ready for bed as soon as I got home though and went right to bed like the old lady that I am at heart.

Saturday morning I had to miss my favorite ClassPass workout, but it was worth it since it was Kassie’s wedding dress shopping day!!! Kassie and I have been best friends for over 14 years now (fun fact: Kassie threw me a surprise 15th birthday party) and I’m so excited to be in her wedding!

IMG_0226

We were twinning accidentally.

Dress shopping was so much more fun when it was for somebody else! I could have watched her try on wedding dresses all day long! Her mom and her soon-to-be sister-in-law were there also (and Gina), and we facetimed her maid of honor while we were there.

IMG_0205

We all headed to lunch at Olive Garden after Kassie decided on a dress (clearly #notthisdress). Kass, Gina, and I tried to find some bridesmaids dresses at the mall after but had no luck! I’m not sure why dresses have to be so ugly these days! None of them were flattering at all!

Saturday evening, Jon and I headed over to my parent’s house for dinner. I hadn’t seen them in two weeks and I like my weekly dinners with my mom and dad! My mom and I finished the night off with the cinnamon rolls I’ve been recommending!

Saturday night I took benadryl and crashed at 9:45 so I could get a full night of sleep before losing an hour of sleep before a day at work! I had a surprisingly great Sunday at work, which I was thankful for because my poor neighbor got killed the entire day so I was able to lend a hand all day long so she didn’t drown! I was so excited to head out of work into daylight! I’m pretty sure that daylight saving is my favorite time of the year! After work, Jon and I had a chill night at home relaxing!

Jon was called off work this morning. It couldn’t have happened on a better day because he has been sick all weekend and has been exhausted! I still crawled out of bed somewhat early for Gravity. This is definitely up there with my top ClassPass classes! I did a poor review the other day, but I realized today that the machines we use are total gym machines. I love them! If the power tower wasn’t $5,300, I would totally buy one. You can get an awesome full body strength workout on that thing. I really enjoyed the class today and definitely felt the burn! We did legs too so I was happy to get in a good leg workout, even though my knees just aren’t what they used to be!

Jon and I ate some breakfast when I got home and then headed to drop my car off for an oil change. We decided to grab some coffee and groceries and look at a few more Jeeps (welcome to our life). Although it’s cloudy, the weather is fantastic today! I think we may head out for a short walk before The Bachelor finale tonight! I’d actually like to go for a run, but I want to spend time with Jon and he definitely won’t go running with me while he’s sick!

Have a good night, everybody!

Octane Coffee & Travel Nurse Friends

Happy Thursday everybody! I was so happy to be off today after a busy last three days at work! Since I went to bed so early last night, I was up before 8! Doesn’t happen much on my days off! Especially not without a ClassPass class to go to! I was motivated to get up early so I could lay on the couch and catch up on some TV shows before Jon got out of bed. Productive use of my morning, I’d say!

Jon woke up just as my shows were ending, so I napped for about an hour while he made me breakfast like a sweet husband should 🙂 After we chowed down on some hash browns and eggs, we decided to head to Octane for some coffee! We hadn’t been there but it’s really well known in Atlanta. I was not disappointed at all! I had a vanilla latte and it was really good! I’ll definitely be going back there.

Jon and I headed to Nordstrom Rack to just kill time together since it was way too cold to hang out outside today. While we were in there, I saw on my Facebook Travel Nurse group that a girl was in Atlanta looking for housing and hadn’t found anything! She looked about my age in her photo, so I sent her a message that said she could come crash with us until she found a place.

Thankfully, my wonderful husband was agreeable to this since I offered it to her while I was using the bathroom and hadn’t even discussed it with him. I’m so glad he’s more easygoing than I am! I would totally not be okay with him extending an invite to our house without discussing it with me first.

Anyway, we ended up heading over to another coffee shop so that we could meet up with Haley, the girl who was going to be possibly staying with us! I ended up getting a turkey and gouda sandwich without the bread (I was going to work out soon and bread would have been too much). Haley was super nice so of course, we told her she could head to our house if she wanted!

We all came back to the house and I made some pancakes for work mornings and hung out for a bit before heading to CrossFit! I ended up picking out an On Ramp class off ClassPass (it wasn’t specified), so I showed up and it was a bunch of first timers! No big deal! We just did a super easy workout and I stepped it up a few notches from what they were doing and stayed after for some rope climbing and pull ups. It was still a good workout!

I made a quick stop for some eggs at Costco and came home to some pork chops and broccoli that Jon made us for dinner (he’s killing it with the meals, apparently!). We cleaned up the house some more since Haley was gone and I was slacking on cleaning the toilets and just needed to pick up a bit in general.

I’m about to head to bed and read. I have a STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction- aka: heart attack) conference lasting all day tomorrow and then I’m headed straight to have dinner with a bunch of travel nurses in the Atlanta area. And then bright and early on Saturday, I’m going wedding dress shopping with Kassie and fellow bridesmaids! I can’t wait! It’s so much more fun doing wedding stuff for somebody else’s wedding!

I’m headed off to bed! Have a good night, guys!

San Antonio Zoo, Austin, Best Cinnamon Rolls EVER!

I’m back from San Antonio! It was a great week with my sisters and my nephew! I think my nephew gets cuter and cuter every time I see him! The things he says just cracked us up all week long and he just melts my little heart!

Annie, Tank, and I landed later on Monday evening. We hung out for a few before heading to bed. Tuesday was a bit of a lazy day- we went out for a quick breakfast and then Tonie had to go to work for a few hours. Annie and I hung out and got our workout on! Tonie has a really nice treadmill and this set up in her garage:

We had a nice home cooked meal that night and then hung out at the house for the evening!

Wednesday was a zoo day! After a quick morning workout, we headed out! I definitely enjoyed my day with Tank and it was such a nice day out! I didn’t get many good pictures of Tank because he doesn’t cooperate for photos at all, but we managed to snap a few of the sisters (the only ones we got)!

We spent our evening making the best cinnamon rolls ever. Seriously. MAKE THEM. I’d cut the butter by about 1/2 and we also added about 1/4 stick of cream cheese to the icing the second time we made them and it was a delicious addition that I definitely recommend. I plan on making these for Jon’s work.

Thursday we woke up early for a day trip to Austin! It was freezing cold and gloomy in Austin! Total bummer! We really didn’t spend too long there but we did get to see a few nice views of the city and experience a really yummy lunch at Slake Cafe.

Our Friday was spent having another day around the house! We woke up super early to make it to breakfast at the Magnolia Pancake Haus since we heard it was a must-eat place. My pancakes were definitely good, but I’m more of a French toast girl and I wouldn’t put their French toast on my top 10 list.

The rest of the day was spent lazing around and working out. I spent the night giving Tank his bath and hanging out with him. I tried to capture at last a few good shots for Gamma and Buppa (my mom and dad) but it was awfully hard with this kid moving around nonstop! His smile is the cutest thing ever but he will not smile for the camera!

Annie, Tank, and I headed out on a 7:25 flight this morning (and I thought I was going to die on the take off- it was not fun taking off into a storm- my least favorite thing to do ever) so I was home in time for some coffee with Laura this afternoon and a few hours walking around the mall. I’m doing laundry now before heading to my mom and dad’s for the night since Jon has friends in town. Can’t be listening to a bunch of guys snoring all night long!

I plan to catch up on Nashville and The Bachelor tonight! I must say- I’m stoked.

Hashbrown Crust Breakfast Pie

I had a pretty fantastic Thursday off work with Jon today! I’m hoping he ends up with a full time gig soon, so I’m trying to enjoy our midweek days off! We slept in a bit today and once we rolled out of bed, I decided to try making the breakfast pie I’ve been thinking about for the last few weeks! It was a major success!

I basically heated up about 4 cups of frozen hash browns on the stove, then smashed the excess water out and lined a buttered pie bowl with the hash browns. I baked the crust at 450 for about 20 minutes until it was a little browned on the edges. While that was in the oven, I had Jon cut up my veggies and sautéed 1/2 a white onion with 8oz of chopped up baby bellas, and then I added in a couple of handfuls of spinach at the end and wilted that. Jon cut up and cooked about 6 slices of bacon. We added all of that to a bowl and mixed in 4 eggs, 1/2 cup of milk, and 1 chopped up roma tomato that we smashed the excess water out of also. Add some cheese (maybe 1/2 cup) and as much pepper as you want and bake at 350 for about 35 minutes! (Like how fancy my “recipes” are?)

Seriously, this was the shit. And I made it all up on my own. I was pretty proud of myself! I think this is going to end up becoming a breakfast staple and I have a feeling the leftovers (though there aren’t many) will make a nice morning snack at work tomorrow!

After our breakfast, we worked on adding me to Jon’s new insurance plan so now we have decent coverage again with Coventry and if I get pregnant now, it won’t be the end of the world! Hallelujah!

We headed out for our routine coffee date and enjoyed our nice cup of joe. Then we looked at some more Jeeps and found a fairly decent price on one! Once Jon gets a new full time job, the new Jeep will be a done deal! We walked around downtown Roswell for a bit after and enjoyed the sunny (but cold) day!

We ended up going home after our little walk and then it was time for me to go meet up with Crista for some PM coffee! I had already had some, so I just stuck with a hot chocolate that was seriously delicious!

They had a pretty killer sugar free carrot cupcake that Crista enjoyed! It was really nice to have some one on one time with her since I’ve only hung out with her and our guys since I’ve been home! We can’t really catch up 100% in the company of the guys. Hopefully this will happen more often so she works so close to our house! I don’t think she realized how close we are to each other!

After coffee, I came home and then Jon and I headed out for our nightly driving lessons! I’m definitely getting much better at driving his Jeep! I learned a trick to manage hills without rolling back so much and I even drove on one of the “main” roads to go take out our trash (we missed trash day today). Our lesson lasted about 45 minutes tonight, which is longer than we’ve been able to go so far. I tend to get stressed out easily when cars are around because I’m really not used to driving a manual yet, but it’s getting way easier now! Luckily the road we live on is really calm at night and has plenty of hills and side streets to practice on, so we’re able to get a good lesson in without going far!

This was the first day off work in a long time that I skipped the gym! I had a pretty killer CrossFit workout last night, including 150 back squats and 150 hand release push ups and a 2000m row (I despise rowing). I only used a 35# barbell on the squats and definitely couldn’t go down as far as I’d like. I also noticed that I leaned to the left since that’s my uninjured side. But I had no increase in pain today so that’s a relief! I may add in squats to my normal workouts, but still at a really low weight and low reps until my form is able to improve again. Today I wasn’t feeling the gym at all and took it as a sign. Besides, I have been wanting to let my hip get a little more rest, and I’m going to ClassPass classes on Saturday and Sunday morning so I think having 2 days off the gym totally will probably be good.

Alright, time to go wind down before bed. I took 50mg of benadryl almost 2 hours ago and am still not tired. WTF. I need to go to sleep for work tomorrow! Ahhhh!
