Birthday Dinner at Capital Grille

Good morning from my couch, at 7:30am on my day off. I wake up every single day at 5:30 to pee, but some mornings it’s hard to fall back to sleep. I have a lot more discomfort when I’m sleeping than I used to and quite frankly, laying down in bed just isn’t what it used to be. So, might as well get up early and be productive.

I’m kidding about the productive part. I ate two oatmeal cookies, drank tea, and watched an episode of Guy’s Grocery Games while trying to get one of the cats to cuddle with me. For the record, the cats are not interested in me this morning.

Yesterday was a total productivity fail. My house? Still a mess. However, my microwave and fridge?! Spotless! After cleaning the kitchen (so I did at least get the kitchen done), I randomly got the urge to clean out my fridge. I probably take everything out twice a year and clean out the drawers and get rid of expired condiments, so it was time. And my fridge just looks so good. And my microwave too. So, even though the rest of the house that actually matters is a disaster, the fridge is clean. I’ll get to the rest of the house today though. I hope. I have a lot of plans at the beginning of my days lately and usually end up sitting on the couch instead, but whatever.

Jon and I went to our very expensive fancy birthday date night dinner last night! I decided to actually get all fancied up for him, which is really rare. For some reason, I’ll get fancy(ish) to go hang out with friends occasionally, but then I throw on jeans and a t-shirt to go anywhere with Jon. #marriedlife I successfully curled my hair with my wand last night. I’m definitely getting better, even if it’s taking a long time. Then again, I curl my hair like, once every 4-6 months. Ain’t nobody got time for that. And I really suck at using curling irons, which I think are way faster than wands. But I just can’t get the hang of them.

IMG_1360

I’m clearly rambling unnecessarily here. I should not type blog posts when I’m tired at 7:30am.

20weeks

I don’t know why Jon didn’t tell me to fix my hairs sticking up all over the place before taking this. This was also right after curling my hair, so the curls hadn’t relaxed yet. Also, this dress was definitely not a maternity dress and got way shorter when I was walking around. Totally bunched up all around this baby.

So, anyway, we went to Capital Grille in Buckhead. Jon went there with a client before and loved his steak and I told him to pick where he wanted to eat. Definitely the nicest place I’ve ever dined before. But it was kind of awesome. I mean, every time I stood up (which was just twice- once to pee and once to leave), a guy magically appeared to pull out my chair! And my biggest pet peeve of not getting refills? After every sip I took, the same guy appeared to refill my water! Like, how does he know that I just drank some water?! If only we were rich, we would experience this more often. (Jon did point out that if we don’t go to Paris in December, we could eat at Capital Grille every week until the end of the year. Thanks. Not happening.)

Anyway, we ate our bread and then I had a butternut squash bisque that was delicious. I think any squash soup is fantastic. I decided to go with salmon for dinner since I tend to be really picky with steaks and I also like them pretty pink on the inside, which is not recommended in pregnancy. So, I’m just staying away from steak until I can have a nice, pink center safely. The salmon was good, but I think I’m just not feeling salmon lately. Last time I ate it (which was months ago), I got sick and threw up all night long. And the last time we bought cod, we didn’t cook it for 3 days and it was insanely fishy and I no longer ever want anything but canned tuna (coming from a girl who loved fish before- maybe it’s the baby/bad recent experiences combo). So, the fish was good, but it was a larger portion and I was kind of over it. Also, apparently the meat is really the main dish at those places, cause nothing came out at all with Jon’s steak and mine had a few green beans. I get tired of eating the same thing after a few bites and like to switch it up, so I would have loved some sides. Maybe sides aren’t a fine dining thing though. For dessert, we both got creme brûlée and it was heavenly! I love a good creme brûlée! I also asked for a birthday candle in Jon’s since it’s his birthday, and because of that, they gave us dessert to take home for free (they apparently do dessert on the house for birthdays, but we didn’t know that).

IMG_1356

So, after getting home, I dug into the cheesecake that they provided. OMG. OMG. Guys. I love cheesecake. Like, love cheesecake. If I had to pick a favorite dessert, it’d be cheesecake. But I like good cheesecake. And I only like plain cheesecake because why would you ever ruin something so delicious by adding to it?! This cheesecake was like the best thing I have ever tasted. First of all, it was so soft and creamy. Second of all (secondly? second?), it had a brûlée topping. It was mind blowing. I think I’m going to go to Capital Grille and order like, 10 cheesecakes at a time. (I’m totally kidding- that would be $100 worth of cheesecake and that thing was way too small. It was not actually an entire pan size of cheesecake, as it could appear in that picture. Dissappointing.)

This picture is not my picture. It’s from the Capital Grille website. But just check out that perfection.

We hung out for a bit at once we got home, and then Jon asked me when I was going to bed. Apparently he wanted to hang out without me for awhile. He always sleeps on the couch cause he hates our bed, so I guess he just wanted to stretch out. So much for loving his wife. (I kid. He loves me.) I passed out and slept great till 5:30 this morning!

BirthdayDinner

Fun fact: This picture and the 20 week picture of me are taken in front of walls that are the exact same color. We have really great lighting in our house.

Okay, well, I suppose I should go watch one more episode of Guy’s Grocery Games and then hopefully, I’ll be able to motivate myself to a) drag my ass to the gym or b) drag my ass to anywhere in my house to start cleaning. What will really happen is probably more along the lines of napping on the couch and not getting up till close to noon. I really need to work on grad school stuff today too, plus tonight is a clinic night so I have to head out around 4:30ish for that. I kind of hate having my Tuesday nights off taken up by sitting in traffic and then volunteering, but at the same time, I love the volunteering part and love the clinic, so I deal with it.

Last side note: Jackson has been moving like crazy lately. And his movements are all the way up to my belly button now! He’s such a big boy! I still wish I could keep him in my belly forever. I have no desire to meet him at all yet. I love him moving around in my belly, but I just don’t want him to come out and be a real baby anytime soon. Like, for at least a few years. At the rate we’re going now, we’re going to be like the Jewish people and have to buy all our baby stuff after he’s born. We haven’t bought one thing yet for him. Oh well.

Bachelorette Party Shopping, New Jobs, and Protein!

Another day, another dolla. I’m kidding. I didn’t even work today. I rarely blog on days I work. Ain’t nobody got time for that.

I did my first Body Attack class last night through ClassPass! It was just weird, you guys. It was basically like a cardio class where you just run in place and jump up and down and wave your arms and punch the air and dance your little feet in square shapes. Not at all what I was expecting. Actually, I thought I signed up for Body Pump, so really not what I was expecting. But it was good. I actually got my heart rate up and got my sweat on, and it was nice to have a break from weights because my body is so tired. So I may do it again. I’m not really sure.

After another sleepless night last night, I got up and headed up to the new hospital for my employee health appointment and medication test. (By the way, I totally just realized I forgot to have my Hep B titers drawn today, which I hope doesn’t mess up my start date! How did I even do that?!) The medication test was actually pretty hard but we got to use a book, thankfully! I am a bit worried because ALL of my new employee paperwork has me listed as working PCU (progressive care unit, a step down from the intensive care unit) and I was very clear during my interview that I wanted telemetry to be my main area and that I could float to PCU as needed since I have ER experience and am familiar with everything they’ll do in PCU, aside from pulling sheaths after coronary intervention. So, I’m a bit miffed because I think I may have been mislead, but I’ll speak with the manager at orientation next week and get it straightened out. Jon told me I should email them now, but either way, I need a break from my current job so bad that I’d really work either… But still, I’ll be reviewing this with them.

After I finished up there, I headed to Whole Foods to grab some stuff for work. Still totally not feeling hardly any food, so I’ve been kind of winging it at the grocery store and hoping I’ll be able to tolerate one of the few items I buy. I also stocked up on some Orgain Protein Almond Milk in hopes of adding it to my fruit smoothies since I’m not eating any meat these days at all.

Gina met me at my house once I got home so that we could do some Bachelorette Party shopping for Kassie’s big weekend! I actually had been planning on going to her house, so when we switched it last minute, it gave me a reason to do a quick clean on my house and now it’s finally cleaned up! I can’t be having people see my house messy.

Gina and I went to Party City for some basic pink Bachelorette goods, but they sadly don’t have any penis decor! I guess I should have expected that since they can’t really throw penises out where little kids are. We also needed to find some lingerie for her lingerie shower (which we’re doing at the Bachelorette Party), so we stopped by TJ Maxx for some sexy underthings! Then we headed to a sex shop thinking they’d have some penis stuff, but they didn’t aside from a penis cake pan (for $19!). Who knew?! And their non-penis shaped stuff was really expensive! So we decided to go in search of a Spencer’s, not even knowing if that store still exists or not. But it does! And they have plenty of penis stuff!

FullSizeRender-2

Kassie said no to that penis nose! WHY?! Haha. I would have totally rocked that! Their penis cake pans were only $8 too! I’m going to frost two penis cakes- one peach and one chocolate. I’m super excited!

After our shopping adventures, Gina left and I read up on some cloth diapering discussion boards (I really think Jon and I are going to go the cloth diaper route because I am way too environmentally conscious to just be throwing away tons of diapers, and cloth diapering is cheaper in the long run). I learned a lot but the whole cloth diapering thing is a bit overwhelming! I think I’m going to register for various types of diapers on my baby registry in hopes of getting different stuff.

I’m thinking I may head out for a quick elliptical session at the gym and maybe some arms. Why not? I’m feeling cabin feverish and hopefully all the post-work gym goers are heading out since it’s 7pm. Maybe I’ll take a walk outside after that too for some nice, fresh humid air! I’m not sure how I’m still so energized today, but I’m loving it! I wish this nausea would go away, but whatever! At least my body hasn’t been drained all day!

4th of July Weekend Update

Sunday nights are just the worst when you have to work on Monday! But anyway, to finish my weekend recap that I started yesterday! Of course, in true Crista fashion, I was unable to get ahold of her to go to fireworks with her. Since Jon and I were planning on being at her house at 8, it kind of put a damper on our night since we didn’t know until 7:30 that we wouldn’t be heading over there. Since the nearby fireworks were booked up and we’re also not big on crowds of people, we decided to maybe skip fireworks.

Since Jon’s friend was in town, I decided to head up to Laura’s parent’s house since I knew she was up there for a little shindig. I love her mom and dad and haven’t seen them since my wedding, so I was actually really excited to go over there! I was only there for maybe 1 1/2 hours before Laura decided to leave, so I had an early night in!

Unfortunately, somebody in the area decided to set off fireworks from midnight until 1:30- at least one firework every minute. I was so irritated. How rude to shoot them off that late at night! Needless to say, it was a late night for me, although I wish it hadn’t been!

I ended up laying in bed, in and out of sleep, until about 10am today. That’s the latest I’ve stayed in bed in awhile but honestly, I really wish it had been more restful! Once I got up, I was still feeling completely exhausted so I lazed around the house and got back in bed for a little while. I finally managed to head out to the gym at 11:15. I’m really impressed that I didn’t skip it entirely, but I really don’t want to get into the habit of letting exhaustion always win over the gym.

I had a 40 minute workout, but it was pretty good! I’ve been doing the elliptical and I can tell my cardio is improving again. I did some leg stuff and decided to call it a day.

Jon and I ate breakfast/lunch when I got home, showered, and then headed out to Whole Foods. After dropping our groceries off, we went to Coffee Bianco for a coffee date!

coffee bianco

This latte was so good! It was citrusy and nutmegy and just really good! I was impressed! And the coffee shop was quiet and cute too, so I’m thinking it’d be a good place to get some work done once grad school starts in the fall!

We headed over to my mom and dad’s house after our coffee since my sister is still in town until Thursday or Friday. I ended up falling asleep there and am so tired now! I plan on reading since my sister gave me some books, and then I’ll be having an early night! Fingers crossed that I can actually get some sleep tonight!

Tomorrow is an 8 hour workday, so I think I’m going to make it to my first ClassPass class again in over a month! There’s a few new studios on there that I’m excited to try, and the one I picked for tomorrow looks like a CrossFit-esque type of class and is one of the few nearby that offers evening CrossFit classes! All the big CrossFit gyms are either too far away with traffic, or offer morning or noon classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Not sure what that’s all about! It’ll be good to get some variety in my life since I essentially do the same moves at LA Fitness and like to get the more complex movements through my ClassPass workouts.

Alright, off to read a book and wind down before bed! 5:15am comes early!

Octane Coffee & Travel Nurse Friends

Happy Thursday everybody! I was so happy to be off today after a busy last three days at work! Since I went to bed so early last night, I was up before 8! Doesn’t happen much on my days off! Especially not without a ClassPass class to go to! I was motivated to get up early so I could lay on the couch and catch up on some TV shows before Jon got out of bed. Productive use of my morning, I’d say!

Jon woke up just as my shows were ending, so I napped for about an hour while he made me breakfast like a sweet husband should 🙂 After we chowed down on some hash browns and eggs, we decided to head to Octane for some coffee! We hadn’t been there but it’s really well known in Atlanta. I was not disappointed at all! I had a vanilla latte and it was really good! I’ll definitely be going back there.

octanecoffee

Jon and I headed to Nordstrom Rack to just kill time together since it was way too cold to hang out outside today. While we were in there, I saw on my Facebook Travel Nurse group that a girl was in Atlanta looking for housing and hadn’t found anything! She looked about my age in her photo, so I sent her a message that said she could come crash with us until she found a place.

Thankfully, my wonderful husband was agreeable to this since I offered it to her while I was using the bathroom and hadn’t even discussed it with him. I’m so glad he’s more easygoing than I am! I would totally not be okay with him extending an invite to our house without discussing it with me first.

Anyway, we ended up heading over to another coffee shop so that we could meet up with Haley, the girl who was going to be possibly staying with us! I ended up getting a turkey and gouda sandwich without the bread (I was going to work out soon and bread would have been too much). Haley was super nice so of course, we told her she could head to our house if she wanted!

We all came back to the house and I made some pancakes for work mornings and hung out for a bit before heading to CrossFit! I ended up picking out an On Ramp class off ClassPass (it wasn’t specified), so I showed up and it was a bunch of first timers! No big deal! We just did a super easy workout and I stepped it up a few notches from what they were doing and stayed after for some rope climbing and pull ups. It was still a good workout!

I made a quick stop for some eggs at Costco and came home to some pork chops and broccoli that Jon made us for dinner (he’s killing it with the meals, apparently!). We cleaned up the house some more since Haley was gone and I was slacking on cleaning the toilets and just needed to pick up a bit in general.

I’m about to head to bed and read. I have a STEMI (ST elevation myocardial infarction- aka: heart attack) conference lasting all day tomorrow and then I’m headed straight to have dinner with a bunch of travel nurses in the Atlanta area. And then bright and early on Saturday, I’m going wedding dress shopping with Kassie and fellow bridesmaids! I can’t wait! It’s so much more fun doing wedding stuff for somebody else’s wedding!

I’m headed off to bed! Have a good night, guys!

Life These Days: Gym, Sushi, Hangouts, Work, Volunteering, & Cooking

I’ve definitely been enjoying my time away from the computer lately! It’s been so busy being at home and when I’m not busy, I’m enjoying my own bed and my cats. As much as I love traveling, I’m really just loving being at home. It’s hard to imagine leaving here for months on end again. So here’s what I’ve been up to! I ended up working a bunch last week, which I suppose I should be really excited about since I’m getting paid better than I was expecting, but still- a break would be more welcome!

I also volunteered at the clinic that I mentioned in my last post on Tuesday night! Surprisingly, I enjoyed it. My role was super easy- I flowed patients from the different areas and then gave them their meds before they left the clinic. The clinic is a “free” ($20 donations suggested by patients, but apparently is rare) clinic for residents of certain areas in the county and they only take care of certain things (hypertension, diabetes treatment with oral meds, hypothyroidism…), but it was good! People were so grateful for the care and most of the people there have been working the clinic for awhile and the time really did go by fast! I plan on volunteering every Tuesday until I leave, and hopefully even when I get home from my final travels!

Last week, I finally broke out my Toasted Marshmallow coffee that I’ve been saving up! I think that light roasts just aren’t my favorite anymore! The flavor was good, but it’s just not bold enough for me. I prefer a little more oomph to my coffee. I’ll still be finishing the bag, but I’m looking forward to a darker roast next time. (Note my Death Valley cup!)

IMG_7972

Although I got to cook while I was traveling, I missed my own kitchen! I missed my food processor and my own pots and pans and all my spices. I would buy things I knew I’d use in a shorter amount of time, but at home, I can buy whatever I want! So I had a day of cooking for work and making my main man some dinner in my kitchen!

IMG_7990

The outcome of all that hard work:

IMG_7993

I had what felt like a really long day at work on Friday! I loved my assignment, but we had a ton of back to back traumas with a bunch of ambulances coming in as well, so we got slammed. And the person who was flowing our department is not my favorite and always makes for a long day! So… By the time I left work, I was starving and in need of a break! Sushi it was! I haven’t had sushi since I stopped at a Hy-Vee on my way to Colorado the first week in October! Love me some sushi!

IMG_8005

On Saturday, Jon and I went to the gym together. My hip has me even more limited these days and it was crowded as all get out with all these New Years Resolutioners, so we kept it to a fairly quick trip. We headed over to look at some shoes for work and then ended up meeting up with Crista and Billy for the evening! We had planned on ice skating but none of us were really feeling it, and since I have a cold, we decided against it! Instead we all just chilled inside and took down Christmas decorations!

IMG_8023

Today I stayed in bed till 11:30 watching my cats sleep and then ran a ton of errands! I had a good hour at the gym, although my leg workouts have been pretty much non weight bearing and that’s a bummer! But I’m back to walking inclines on the treadmill and I maintain my heart rate around 180 during the inclines, so I’m happy with it. It’s definitely more tiring than just running is for me right now since I still can’t run that fast comfortably with my hip. Tonight, I think I managed to finish up my resume, so I’ll be sending that out to grad school since all my application stuff is due by Feb 1st! I meant to work on taxes today, but oops, I forgot. Instead, I enjoyed this face and am now about to head to bed!

Happenings of Home Life

We are FINALLY getting some beautiful weather in Georgia! A cold spell is on its way in, but I don’t even care! As long as it’s sunny, I’m happy!

Yesterday morning I lazed around and stayed in bed reading until 11:30! It felt so good. With all the traveling and working I’ve done in the last month, I really haven’t spent a ton of time relaxing (other than nightly Netflix documentaries with Jon). I really enjoyed just staying in my warm bed with my cats snoring next to me!

I ended up getting called into work as soon as I got up though, which was a bummer. I had planned on it happening but was still less than excited to get the call from my supervisor! So I headed into work for a few short hours and then as soon as I left work, I found out Jon was off early!

We decided to go try to enjoy the last bit of daylight and get in a Stone Mountain hike!

10919244_1524837484468695_580491879_n

I love the skyline from the top of Stone Mountain! And it was beautiful with the sun setting too! The skyline looks so small and far away in the picture, but it really is much bigger looking in person! My iPhone couldn’t capture Mt Hood either. Shame.

We ended up heading out to a new Whole Foods that I’ve heard good reviews about and had a quick dinner there. Then we hung out on the couch for the rest of the evening with the fireplace going! I can’t tell you all enough how much I love being home and relaxing on the couch with my husband and cats on a nightly basis!

Jon was off work today and I had my “intro” gym session since I just rejoined at LA Fitness, so we both headed out around 9am. I’m really trying to get him to be more active and thanks to all our Netflix documentaries about the food in the US, he’s on a much healthier eating kick too! (Side note: We have found that Costco actually has quite a bit of organic food for much cheaper, along with coconut oil and maple syrup for super cheap and it’s the good kind! Been cutting way down on our Whole Foods bill- although I still buy my meat from Whole Foods.)

My gym session was nice. I was surprised that I could still do 33 pushups in a row, especially after not working out for a full month. We did a lot of TRX type squats which took the weight off my hip and I could actually do! Unfortunately, you have to do the personal training there to be able to use the TRX stuff, but now I’m considering looking into TRX classes (I know it’s not cheap, but since I can’t do CrossFit right now, maybe it’s a good alternative). After being back in the gym finally, I see a huge regression in the healing of my hip after that road trip so that was a huge let down. I’m actually thinking I may need to go to rehab for it, but I’m obviously going to wait till I have a diagnosis from an MRI- which should hopefully happen in the beginning of February.

Jon and I decided to enjoy the beautiful day after the gym! We headed down to the Beltline  (a 10 mile paved trail) in Midtown and went for a walk and then headed out to get some coffee! Now we’re home and I’m about to shower and get ready.

10919691_437045579777132_1309772521_n

I’m volunteering tonight (one of the nurse practitioners at work told me I have to before grad school- she also does interviews for programs at Georgia State and is writing my recommendation letter- so I’ll do what she says) at a health clinic. I am less than excited about it and have no clue what my role will be there. Hopefully something simple like handing out clipboards and checking vital signs! It should last from about 5:30-8:30 and then I imagine I’ll be watching another documentary with Jon tonight or reading a book by the fire!

Have a great day, everybody!

Gym time and snow preparation

Happy Monday! I had another horrible night of sleep last night because of being sick and it’s really starting to get old! Fortunately, when I got to work today, I didn’t see myself on the board at 3pm (our assignments are written on a whiteboard every morning) so I assumed I must be working over in the children’s ER. But I wasn’t there either! Come to find out, I was only working till 3pm today! I think I spent the first two hours of work being so happy about only having to work 8 hours today that my day really flew by! And I worked with one of my favorite doctors and it was a really good day for a Monday!

Since I got off early, I was able to make it grocery shopping since we’re expecting another snow (and I was planning on getting groceries today anyway). Whole Foods wasn’t nearly as bad as the pictures I was seeing on Facebook of Publix and Kroger, but they were still out of goat cheese crumbles, bananas, basil, and bacon. All staples (except basil, but I really wanted to make basil pesto chicken salad!) in our house.

I decided to take a quick nap before hitting up CrossFit tonight. I’m actually really surprised that I was able to drag myself out of bed to go to the gym! We did 3×10 back squats (93#) and then did a 1000 meter row, 50 thrusters (33#) and 30 toes to bar. I finished in 11:18. Not too bad. My quads were dying with all those squats and from yoga yesterday! My hip capsules are also super sore from yoga. How sad.

I’m finally feeling back into the swing of working out! After going through kind of a low point at the beginning of wedding planning, I’m finally starting to feel better. I was just feeling really down and I think the huge change of having to get married kind of put me into shock and made me test Jon a little bit. Also, I hadn’t spent any time with friends over Christmas break and I really need to have friends in my life to feel like a normal person. So I’ve definitely had to readjust some priorities to be able to actually hang out with my friends, which I really think has made a huge difference. Overall, my happiness has leveled out again and I’m really getting excited about getting back in shape. I’m excited that Gina will be going to yoga with me sometimes. I’m excited because I’ve been wanting to do Body Works at LA Fitness on Saturday mornings and a girl that I work with also goes to that gym and said she’d come with me on Saturday mornings! And Crista’s knee is all better these days, so she’s been able to run again too! We run about the same pace and similar distances, so the prospect of having friends to work out with is making me want to do it too!

Anyway, Jon and I just got home from a little date night to Costco. I’m about to start on biology. Class is already cancelled tomorrow and I’m really not sure what I’m going to do about work on Wednesday. I may end up at the hospital tomorrow night and having to stay until Thursday, but I really really don’t want to! Dang snow in Atlanta!

Have a good night, guys!

Love Saturdays!

I have had such an unproductive day as far as studying goes! After spending all morning working on an essay for our test on Tuesday, I found the information when I sat down (finally) at 8pm tonight and rewrote the entire essay in 10 minutes. Ugh. And I’ve only done maybe 3-4 hours total of studying today. Not great. And that was mostly spent playing with the cats.

I noticed it was sunny out while making some breakfast this morning and was really excited thinking Jon would be home early enough from work to go to Stone Mountain with me! I was also really wanting to go sit outside at some cute place to eat somewhere new! Unfortunately, his first case started late at the hospital so he was there for almost the entire day. Luckily, Crista was able to meet up with me at Piedmont Park for an afternoon walk! I spent a good 45 minutes getting to the park because of a really minor accident on 85 and rubberneckers ruining my drive for me.

Image

By the way, my hair looked really good today and I didn’t even get it in the picture. Like, really really good. Anybody with wavy hair knows how exciting that it.

Crista wanted to go for a run but there’s still no way I could possibly run with these sick lungs. So we enjoyed an hour long walk all over the park and then I had to head back home. My drive home was spent in an hour of traffic because of road work trying to get on 400 and I thought I was going to lose my mind. You know when you get stuck in road work traffic on a Saturday afternoon unexpectedly, after getting stuck in rubbernecker traffic on your way to your hour long walk in the park when you’re supposed to be studying for a test anyway? Irritating. But I managed not to be too insanely miserable because I could at least have my windows down today while my car was at a standstill.

Since traffic had me backed up, I had Jon drive my mom’s car up to their house and meet me there (my car has been all better so far, thanks to Jon for fixing it for me!). I had planned on staying for a few to look at their Puerto Rico pictures since they just got home today, but then my mom mentioned making French toast for dinner so we stayed! Sadly, I really don’t spend nearly as much time with my parents as I used to and I really should. Working with so many elderly people really makes me appreciate my mom and dad so I need to spend more time with them while I can! Also, my mom makes pretty bitchin’ French toast and since I don’t buy bread, it’s my chance to eat things I wouldn’t eat at home (like grilled cheese or fried egg sandwiches!).

As soon as we got home after dinner, I started back on biology. I found Jon asleep on the couch at 9 and then found him in bed at 10, so I guess he’s having an early night! I’m super excited because I’m meeting Gina at the gym for yoga in the morning! I don’t even like yoga but I’ve been kind of bummed that my first week of getting back into the gym for good was spent being sick instead! I think I’ll get there a little early and try to run at least 2 miles and maybe do some squats or deadlifts or something. And hopefully meeting her there will start my day off productively and I’ll stay on track with biology (that’s not going to happen).

Snowpocalypse Day 2

I’ve had quite the lazy morning! Instead of getting tons of schoolwork done last night and today like I had planned on, I spent the time watching Real World and Teen Mom. Can I just admit to my embarrassing love for Teen Mom and Real World? You know when your mind is so full of mush from having to concentrate on biology and you’re exhausted from taking care of patients for 12 hours and then you get home and want to kill your fiance for messing up your nice, clean house?! Me too. And when that happens and I’m overly stressed, I really just want to watch stupid drama on TV because it’s mindless. I don’t have to think about anything other than how stupid people can be. It’s wonderful. And Jon even watched Real World with me last night while we drank wine and cuddled under blankets. I asked him, “Aren’t you so glad I’m not crazy like these people?” and he said, “Yeah, but I’m concerned that you like watching these crazy people.”

I was wide awake at 8 this morning and considered getting up, but it was so warm in bed. I cuddled with Tom for an hour and then fell back to sleep until 10. I managed to drag myself out of bed and go for a 7 mile walk around in this snowy weather.

It was really windy on just that specific street!

Most of the bigger streets seemed okay, but the back streets were pretty icy. Along my walk, I met up with a middle aged woman who decided to turn around walk with me to try and see 285. I saw on the news that it was gridlocked, but people seemed to be moving fairly well. We talked about our condos and the weather and then she turned around and I continued my walk alone.

This is actually the street that I live on, just south of 285 (I live about 1/2 mile up the road from here). The road was closed off from all other cars because it obviously turned into an icy, abandoned parking lot for cars. Most of them were unscathed, but a few had run into each other (there’s a little pile up in the front there). When I was walking down the hill, two cars decided to go around the road closed sign. One young woman decided to try and make it up and icy hill at a really low speed. All bad ideas. She slid down the hill, right into a perfectly good car that had parked on the side of the road. A passerby asked her, “Are you okay?” and she screamed, “NO I’M NOT OKAY!” Well, you probably shouldn’t try to take your little bitty car around the road closed signs and then try to drive up an icy hill. As I was walking by the on ramp for 285, cars were driving in the wrong direction to get back off the highway. Looking east on 285, I could see tons of trucks just parked on the highway. And then my walk ended back in my nice warm house! Thankfully I didn’t bust my ass on the ice, although I was close multiple times. It was just a sheet of ice under the snow for most of my walk

I had some breakfast after and watched some more Real World. Now I’m finally about to start on my homework. Jon is off work already (must be slow at the hospital!) but he’s running coworkers all over the place since he has a Jeep with four wheel drive. I’m hoping he comes home and keeps me company sometime soon! I get cabin fever really easily.

I may do a few arm exercises at home later on today. I’ve been doing them a little more than usual lately since I have to wear a wedding dress in four months and don’t want my arms to feel like little bony things protruding from my body. I’ve been really sporadic with eating lately and have been going to bed hungry out of sheer laziness, so I’m going to have to get my act together so I don’t lose weight.

Anyway, everybody have a wonderful day!

Snowpocalypse 2014

I just downloaded Google Chrome and can now see all blogs on my desktop! No more waiting for Jon’s computer to update myself on blogs! One day, I’ll have a laptop of my very own. I dream of it often. However, definitely not before the wedding. I’m hoping to invest in one when I leave for my first travel assignment in June!

Anyway, this has been yet another crazy few days. Sunday was spent moving Jon out of his storage unit and into our house completely. He had been keeping it because he thought there wasn’t enough room for everything here. There is. We just need to finish putting it all away.

What a disaster!

I went to have dinner at Atlanta Bread Company with Laura and we went to pick up a picture that I had framed from Australia and some yarn for her. When I finally made it home at 7pm to go grocery shopping with Jon and start on homework, my car wouldn’t start! I have a 2011 Honda Civic! Granted, it has 67,000 miles on it, but still! Jon and I have deduced that it is probably the sensor on my starter, so either he will try to learn how to change it out or I’ll take it to the shop. Not positive yet. But we ended up having to drive out to my parent’s house to pick up my mom’s car so we can take mine to the shop this week (my dad also has a company car so they technically have an extra). We haven’t really discussed the plan on my car yet because…

It’s Snowpocalypse 2014! But really. Monday was spent working. Then doing homework. Today I worked 7-3p and it started snowing halfway through my shift. All of Jon’s classes were cancelled and since my mom wasn’t too keen on the idea of having me drive her car home in the snow/possible ice, I asked Jon to come pick me up. After a really slow day at work (apparently snowy days keeps the patients away), he managed to make it up to the hospital an hour after I got off work (it took him 2 hours to get there). I just talked to my dad and my mom has been driving home from work for EIGHT HOURS! She only works about 10 miles from home and she left at 1:30 this afternoon! It’s horrible here! She’s about 2 miles from home now but my dad said she’s not moving at all on the road!

This isn’t where I work, but this was downtown Atlanta. Notice all the traffic.

Top left is my condo with snow, bottom left is our parking lot with snow, and of course, the right is my handsome fiance with his snowball!

We didn’t hit much traffic heading back home, thankfully! I showered when I got home, took a quick nap, and then have been working on biology ever since! Any biology people out there, let me just tell you how much I dislike the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Over an hour later, a phone call to my lab partner, and lots of erasing, I managed to finish 3 problems. I still have a ton of biology to catch up, unfortunately! Well, not even catch up on, but really to just remain with the pace of the class. I hate these hybrid classes!

Anyway, there has been a serious lack of gym time. I had good intentions of going Saturday but decided to have a date night with Jon instead (after I worked most of the day). Sunday we never actually made it to run the Hot Chocolate 5k because somebody assured me twice that we did not need to pick up our race packets before the race! Obviously, I didn’t verify this because I trust what people tell me. Somebody never checked the website. So, $110 out the window. Awesome. And yesterday was a work day and today was a snow day. I have a feeling the snow will be around tomorrow too, so I have no idea what will happen with the gym. I have paid for a CrossFit membership now so I’m ready to be going at least twice a week again but I guess the snow has other plans. I’m sure the city will be shut down tomorrow. Except for the hospitals, and Jon has to work so I’ll be home alone all day long 😦 Just kidding. I’m kind of excited to have a day at home alone.

Too bad we don’t have more food in the house. Also, I ate out way too much in the past week and also have been eating horribly. I ate four brownies yesterday. Wait, five. I had another after work. And then today, one of the doctors at work ordered us pizza (lucky delivery girl who sat in traffic for 1 1/2 hours to bring us our pizza at the hospital!) so I had two slices. I haven’t cooked in awhile because I have literally been working and doing schoolwork nonstop! I can’t wait to graduate in May!

Okay, off to start working on my biology! Everybody have a good week!
