Baby Shower

Hello on another lazy Monday! I thought about picking up at work today, but my sleep has been terrible over the last few nights and I was worried I’d have yet another sleepless night last night. I have just been extremely uncomfortable at night and have really horrible lower back pain. I averaged probably 1-2 solid hours of sleep per night last week. Seriously. The third trimester is rough.

I’m going to just talk about my baby shower in this post though! Although there is much more to update you all on, I figure a baby shower post will be long enough! My two sisters (Annie and Tonie) flew in from out of town for 1 1/2 days, just to be here for the shower! My three best friends from high school, Gina, Kassie, and Laura were organizing the party and my mom was technically hosting it at her house. I asked Jon if he would come too, especially since his mom and sister were joining the party all the way from Florida, so he was around for most of it! It was a Lumberjack themed party to play off the name “Jackson” and because it’s winter and I love lumberjack stuff!

Saturday morning we woke up to snow in Atlanta, although the roads were perfectly fine. I was worried the baby shower was going to end up just being my close friends and family, but then again, I’m not a huge party person so I probably wouldn’t have been too upset! The roads ended up staying okay though and we ended up having a good turnout for the shower!

(Side note: I put on jeans for this party to be a little more “dressed up” and wore them for about an hour before the shower started and then decided to F the jeans- I was wearing leggings. So glad I invested in these leggings before I ever got pregnant!)

The girls came over at 1pm to set up for the shower. Everybody else started showing up around 2:50 for a 3-6 shower. I had a few girls from high school come, Jon’s mom and sister, five girls from work, and then some other girls that I’ve been friends with in my old(er) age. Gina and Kassie made me this cute “diaper cake” since I’m doing cloth diapers! They ended up putting a sheet and towels in there with the octopus cake topper! Genius!

We did a brunch party because brunch is my favorite meal of the day so it only makes sense! The food ended up being fantastic and we had leftovers of all of it! Surprisingly, the dessert hardly got touched! I guess when you fill up on French toast casserole, you just don’t need dessert! Kassie also made a delicious hot chocolate in a crockpot that she found on Pinterest so we had a little hot chocolate bar set up. The hot chocolate was SO freaking good. Holy cow. And I’m sure terrible for you (it had a carton of heavy whipping cream, milk, a bag of chocolate chips, and other stuff, I’m sure). I could have drank that hot chocolate all day long.

Once our brunch was over, we played the game where you guess how big the belly is! We had everybody cut a piece of twine (goes with the lumberjack theme) and I kept joking with Jon that he better win. Turns out, he was spot on! I mean, within a centimeter. It was pretty impressive! I guess all those massages he’s been giving me and me making him always touch my belly has payed off for him guessing my size, haha.

We opened gifts, which was actually a lot of fun. I can’t even remember the last time I had to open gifts like that in front of people since I skipped out on any wedding showers so I was worried it would be really awkward. Turns out, opening baby stuff is genuinely fun so it was natural to be more excited about the gifts I received! We got tons of clothes and sheets and blankets. I also got a pack n’ play from Laura’s mom (I love Laura’s mom- unfortunately she was sick and couldn’t make it) and was so thrilled! I definitely didn’t think we’d get any of our bigger items, so that was awesome.

Best friends since high school! Rachel (17 weeks pregnant with a baby girl!!!), Laura, Gina, me, Kassie.

We played a few more games and then the shower was over! Everybody headed out around 5:45ish. The time went by so fast! I was so glad that so many people came out! A girl I hadn’t seen at work in years (she went to a different department) even came and it is just really humbling that people take time out of their lives to come celebrate with you! Definitely a fantastic shower!

I hung out with the family and Jon afterwards and relaxed. It’s always so nice to have my sisters in town! I wish they lived closer! Although I’m glad the shower is over, now we’re on the real countdown till Jackson’s due date! Less than 6 weeks to go and now it’s showtime! We’ve been putting off getting everything together until we saw what we received from the shower, so now we have a ton to do! And a ton left to buy! It’s going to be a busy six weeks, that’s for sure!

34 weeks. Hard to tell against the dark fireplace. And ignore the feet! Haha.

  1. I love the lumberjack theme and how everyone wrapped the twine around your belly! Plus a hot chocolate bar sounds delicious (a pub run I went to did that, although ours had alcohol for the chocolate too). I’ve never had hot chocolate from a crock pot but that would be a cool idea. And the diaper cake with cloth diapers is the cutest. Looks like you had a wonderful shower :).

    • The hot chocolate was seriously some of the best I’ve ever had. I guess it’s the way to go! However, you have to have a lot of people or REALLY like hot chocolate cause it ffilled it up. (I cannot figure out what is up with my F key today! I either get no F or two Fs if it’s followed by an I in the word!) It was deffinitely (UGH, SEE!) fun!

  2. That octopus is SO cute!! And a lumberjack theme? How cute and original! I would lovvvvve a hot chocolate bar. If I ever get married, I’d like a s’mores bar. Yum. 🙂

    • I love the octopus! They were like, “You can return anything you need to in there but PLEASE don’t return the octopus!” Haha. But I love that octopus! It’s so cute! The hot chocolate bar was an awesome idea. Except now I just want to have hot chocolate all the time because it was that good! And who can drink an entire crockpot full of hot chocolate? A smores bar would be awesome! And you will get married one day, ha 🙂

  3. Aww this looks so much fun, I’ve only ever been to one baby shower they are kind of new trend over here! Love the lumberjack theme too! 🙂

    • I didn’t even realize that Baby Showers were more of a thing in the US! They definitely help out, but everybody seems to be having babies right now so I’ve also spent a ton on gifts for other babies when I could really be spending that on Jackson, and those people were buying for Jackson when they could just buy for their own baby. But it helps with the FIRST (I have NO f’ing clue why my keyboard will literally not let me type that word without caps on- it either says first or ffirst and it won’t let me change it back like I usually can with autocorrect- WTF) baby a ton since nobody has anything for baby #1!

      • Yeah I guess it’s a US thing mostly! They are so much fun though so I hope it’s a trend that sticks around here too!!
I have always bought baby gifts but always after the baby is born and give them when you go to meet them for the first time. Also, I’m not sure if it’s tradition or not here but I know most of my friends parents bought the pram/stroller for the baby and then the Dads parents bought the cot/cradle! I get more excited for you with every post!!!!

      • I’ve never heard of that before with the cradle/stroller. Jon’s parents bought our stroller actually and my parents are buying our crib! But I think they would have been fine buying whatever! I actually really like baby showers and I typically don’t like parties like that! Baby stuff is just a lot more fun!

  4. That octopus thing is so cute! You look gorgeous! You’re really glowing in all the pictures! I just love that theme, it’s so cute.

In Hispanic, at least Dominican, culture, the men also come to the babyshowers. It’s this big even with a ton of food and alchohol, for the men of course haha. It’s so different from American. It’s interesting to compare the two.

    • I actually went to a baby shower for my friend from work who is Hispanic and her husband went! I just thought maybe it was normal since I haven’t been to THAT many, so I asked Jon to be there for mine too! I thought we may need him to run errands or whatever too, but he was definitely not really an active participant in the shower. It was definitely “my” party. I’m glad people think I’m glowing cause I feel like I just look kind of fat, haha.

That sounds like such a lovely time! I love the theme, perfect for a winter day!

    • Thank you 🙂 We figured the theme was fitting! It was between that and a “baby it’s cold outside” type thing, but I was all for lumberjack!

  6. Aw, what a cute idea for a theme!! And that hot chocolate thing sounds like the greatest idea ever. I’ve never had a shower type thing, but I can only imagine how awkward it would be if it was like for yourself, but I think it would be so fun to open baby gifts. Like, that would be like Christmas x10. (If it isn’t obvious I would totally love to have a baby now lol.) Also, I don’t think it was one of these pictures, maybe it was on your Instagram, but you and your sisters look the same!!

    • Hah, I don’t think my sisters and I look the same at all! I think I look more like my brother (who is pretty much never pictured on my blog). I also get told ALL THE TIME that I look just like my mom and I totally don’t see it! You and John should go ahead and have a baby! Then you can open baby gifts too 🙂 I just hate asking for gifts for myself since I can just buy the things I want! I felt like that with a baby too- like we decided to have him so we should probably just buy everything for him. But my friends are all about crafting and honestly, I think they just wanted to throw me a baby shower so they could craft stuff for it.

  7. I’m with everyone else– I love the lumberjack theme! I think baby showers are so fun, just because the gifts are more exciting than a bridal shower, haha. Looks like yours was a lot of fun!

    • It was definitely a fun theme! I feel like I should do a lumberjack theme for a room, except I’m not even decorating the baby’s room 🙂 And it’s blue/gray, haha.
